  1. Queensland Flooding

  2. Originally posted by: A Nonny Moose Well, some interesting calculations. Have you considered where it would be domiciled? Simtropolis is a Canadian site, and we have a multi-national membership. I should think we would like to avoid being domiciled in the U.S.A. because of the current economic situation there. Before you have a stock company, even a private one, you have to have articles of incorporation, and you are liab le for annual corporate taxes, so you have to be sure of what you are doing. quote> I don't have all this knowledge to do it myself. I was just making a suggestion. Perhaps the owner of simtropolis could look at my idea and put it into action or some one else may like to put this plan together.

Why hasn't Australia taken up the offer of help from the US our closest Allie.

Should we try a complete take over of EA? quote> LOL it would be nice to take over EA but i think it would be out of our reach but not impossible. I will leave it to MS or Apple to take over EA. But seriously we do have enough members. At Simtroplois we have 366,893 members. I don't know how much the game is worth. But if every member put in $100.00 you would have $36,689,300 or if you put in $50.00 you would have $18,344,650. Yes i know not every member is active. So if you only had half of the members put in $50.00 you would have $9,172,325. Like i said i don't know what the game is worth now but i am sure the calculations i have done here would more than cover it and if you combine it with the other web sites we would have more than enough and maybe even take over EA LOL. As for the structure of the company. Every shareholder would have a equal share either it be $50.00 or a $100.00 what ever we decide on how much we should put in.and the limit is one share per member. Any profits would go back to the members or the member could elect to have the profit put back into the company. The company would be run by a shareholder committee who are elected by the share holders. The committee would be responsible for the hiring of the management to run the company and develop the game. Other games would be develop to support the cash flow for the continual development of SC4.

  6. Originally posted by: LivingInThePast I suppose that if EA loses enough money, they'll just dip into their cash reserves and buy out a more profitable company.quote> They have tried. But nobody wants to sell to them. I wonder why? With EA bad reputation of buying companies and then destroying the company they purchased along with the games.
  7. Sim City 4 Lagging

I have the same problem. It is very slow in hardware mode. but it works well in Software mode. I have a ATI Radeon HD 5800. Does anyone one know of a fix for this.

  9. CXL Fansite?

Its something we need to do to stay relevant as a website, due to the lack of new, relevant, Simcity projects. You can already see this trend. We're covering CitiesXL news, visiting the studio for a play through and keeping a forum open for pre-release discussion. As the game approaches I'm sure you'll see more information about CitiesXL posted right here on Simtrop. Rest assured that all accommodations for CitiesXL will be rolled out when we better understand what its specific needs will be. Simtropolis is publisher agnostic, we will cover any and all city building games regardless of where they come from. To what depth we decide to cover them will most likely depend on the level of interest from the community as a whole.quote> If Cities XL really does well i think Simtropolis focus will change to Cities XL thats not to say it wont cater for SC4 because SC4 will still be in the background but wont feature as much as it use to. Cities XL is a new sim and if people like it then it should feature prominently on the web site just like SC4 has for many years.
  10. Originally posted by: R600 Does anyone actually know why EA came out with SimCity Societies? The game is a load of rubbish. quote> Because EA saw this $$. They were hoping to cash in on the casual gamer and also the players who play the Sims would buy it. But as we all know it didnt turn out like that and it was a flop.
  11. Any mention of possible DRM with cities XL?

MC please dont be the evil EA and have DRM. Put simply if the game has DRM including online activations and also uses Steam i will not buy the game. Please learn from EA mistakes. Take note MC Spore was the most pirated game in history.

There nose is really out of joint because they are not the biggest gaming company anymore. So they will be on the hunt to buy some one else. The only problem is no one wants to sell out to EA. EA tried to buy UBI and 2K but failed. But i hope MC never sells out to EA because if that happens it is bye bye City XL.

Originally posted by: deathtopumpkins Well, there have been countless petitions and letters to EA. I've signed 'em. I've sent 'em. Did it help? No. EA doesn't care about loyal fans anymore, because they know that they make all (or at least most) of their money off of people who see the game in the store and think "Ooh... that looks cool," but then bring it home and not have it work on their computer. EA doesn't care if we actually play it as long as we buy it! I bet most people here bought SCS when it came out to see how bad it was, even if they haven't played it since. And anybody remember "You killed SimCity!"? It's not really Will Wright's fault though. EA bought the rights to the whole sim franchise from him before even SC4. Look at the credits. The only time his name is listed is as "Special Thanks to Will Wright for making the original SimCity." Maxis still exists as an independent company though. Will Wright created Spore under it's name, EA's just the publisher. ~You will not be using this site as a platform for hate mail, no matter how angry you are at someone behind a silly video game.~ EDIT: What hate mail? I don't even remember what I said there, but I'm not typing any hate mail at anybody. That was not my intention. As much as I hate to admit it, I think we should give up on the SC franchise, and just look forward to CXL. If Will Wright decided to make another city builder, it couldn't be branded as SC, since EA owns the franchise. Thus, any future games in the SC series will be produced by EA's Sims Division.quote> I think we have gone past sending letters to EA. They have stopped listening a long time ago. And i do think EA has been punished by the community because of SCS. SCS was a failure and EA know this. And EA will be further punished when City XL comes out.

There's one thing in common with all of these kinds of projects - they never get anywhere. I've seen countless amounts of projects just like these (for different games), and they all die out, forgotten for all eternity (except by the microchips, as they know no age, no despair). I would be surprised if an actual, complete, working game came out of this. Very surprised. Chris.quote> I think you are going to see more open source games come out in the future. Gaming companies are no longer catering for the PC gamer as they once were look at EA. Most serious PC gamers are getting very annoyed with companies like EA who destroy games and dumb them down. I realize a lot of projects dont get underway. But i do feel there is a revolt going on and we will see more open source games created by people who got annoyed with the likes of EA for destroying games.
  16. If it has online activations and limited amount of activations i will not be buying it. I refuse to buy any games that require online activations and restricts the users who genuine gamers not pirates.
  17. Originally posted by: SimRabbit Come on, EA/Maxis are the creators and it's their own decision to do whatever they want with their games. To me, it sound like you want to torrent it. That's just me.quote> It must be you because i have no desire to download pirate games on the torrents.
  18. Originally posted by: mightygoose if you keep ip with the news they scrapped the idea, saying it is not ready yet...quote> They have only scrapped the 10 day activation as far as i know. Originally you would have to activate the game every 10 days to keep it running. But you will still have to activate it the first time and you only have 3 activations. If they have scrapped it completely that is good news. But i haven't heard they have.

  20. future of simcity is dire

I made a point of not buying any EA in house games but there are two exceptions Sim city and Spore. Spore i will buy because Will Wright is doing it and i know it will be well supported. But i wouldnt buy any other EA game including SCS. I will still buy games that EA distribute but dont own. I have said this in many threads EA will not recover from this because MC will have the fan base that EA once had. Even if EA brings out a SC5 they will be struggling to get people back from CU. And EA still hasn't learn there lesson. SCS was a flop and they are releasing a add on pack for it. The execs at MC must have thought this was gold when EA made this mistake. If CU is as good as SC4 MC will have my money and my support and the Sim city series will be dead. This will go down in gaming history as one of EA biggest blunders. And i am also glad Sid Meir did not sell out Take2 to EA. If this had happen we would have ended up with a new game Grand theft Madden.
  21. Originally posted by: Patricius Maximus SC franchise as developed by EA is dead. That's not excluding CU or an ST game....quote> It will be dead when CU comes out in 2009. If CU is as good as SC4. Then EA will really be struggling to bring out a proper SC5. Because CU will have the market and loyalty. EA will never recover the customer base it once had.
  22. Originally posted by: Mulefisk Ahh this is great! I'm just hoping EA learns from this.quote> Something tells me they wont. And it will be too little too late anyway. CU will over take Sim City. EA is going to have huge problems if they do a SC5 and CU is a success.
  23. Thank You, Monte Cristo

How ever i am afraid it will be too late for EA. All the fan base would have shifted to CU and i dont see EA ever recovering form this shift. SC5 would become a second sim rated game maybe even third. EA will go down in history as making one of the biggest blunders of all time with SCS and how to lose a large fan base.
  24. I think T2 use to make Madden until EA got the rights for it. T2 always made better football games than EA ever did.
  25. I only just heard about this and i like everyone else is disappointed. This game is destine to be a flop. I would have thought EA would have learnt something from Monte Cristo when City Life was a flop. But obviously EA hasn't learnt from the City Life flop and mistakes. And the ironic thing is Monte Cristo has been listening and will develop the next one similar to Sim city 4. EA reckons that they have done research what research was this mickey mouse. They obviously haven't been to this forum or other forums. Because if they had they would know the reaction they would get. I also believe that Simtropolis should approach other developers to make the game. The makers of COH massive might be a worthy contact because this is what they think of EA in there game 3A5UX5 EA haven't listen to there customers for years and they wont until it hits there pocket. This game will be cancel before it even comes out.
