SimCity 5 - How would you envision it?
mnmsimmer replied to mnmsimmer's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I think a super-detailed 2d iso is much more appealing than a blocky, thrown-together, poor-excuse-for-a-3d-engine type game. You just can't seem to get the same level of detail, esp. on slightly older cpus. -
SimCity 5 - How would you envision it?

One thing that really ticked me off about SC4 was its lack of attached garages, esp. in the American style homes. I mean, duh, what would an American garage-mahal mcmansion type house be without a cavernous 4-bay attached garage? -
SimCity 5 - How would you envision it?

You've gotta give Maxis a hand. The first City picture looks pretty Maxisish to me. Though I think they should have made more buildings and more complex transportation and infrastructure in SC4, their architecture for many buildings is not to bad. What would it take to create near-real graphics? Would it be possible in 2D isometric form? A SC5 like this would be better than SC Societies, in my opinion. -
I am trying to load a region (grayscale jpg) onto its custom config.bmp and it wont do it!!! I've been trying for the past hour with out success. All it says is "region generation error: region bitmap size is incorrect -- 3073x3073, should be 3585x3585" Please someone help me fix this as I dont have all the time in the world to play this game.

THIS IS REALLY F-ING FRUSTERATING!!!
-
Thanks, that got me a step further, but it still doent work. It starts to go to the part where the city tile pops up and it is supposedly terraforming from the grayscale jpg, but shortly after it crashes!!!

As a tristater (NY-NJ-CT), I LOVE the City. Perhaps you will be the one to make it better than the real thing (hard to do, as NYC is the center of the universe). Maybe a new Boston/NY rivalry could ensue between you and the patriots fan... who can build the better replica!!! hehehe. This is a thread to follow!

Jeez. That region is huge. Does it go all the way out the far suburbs like CT and Westchester? And are you going to build Superbowls Champs Giants stadium (go big blue!) at the Meadowlands?
-
I live in Connecticut and usually fly out of Newark-Liberty Airport. I'd say that's a great replication. Be sure to add some parking valets and cheap hotels around. Anyways, great job.

BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion
mnmsimmer replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
I am getting really pissed with this. I downloaded Maxis' plugin manager and the BAT program (and it worked fine with GMAX) some time ago and accidently deleted maybe a couple of months ago. I still have Gmax but it can't do anything without the BAT/Plugin manager so im screewed. I completely forgot -
Current Population at 1,041,449 Beautifully set in Coastal Southern Texicota. Dry Mediterranean Climate surrounded by mountains and scrub-oak woodlands...until more sprawl attacks! Soon to start uploading pics and info! I tried to make it a real-looking city. Port San Andreas Suburb SW of San Andreas; on the San Andreas River. Population: 43,522 (Pics of The City of San Andreas and Region View Available at bottom.) Captions describe pictures above them. Part of the Older Suburbs in Port San Andreas The "Strip" at Portia Beach in West Port San Andreas The "Strip" Again- Late Afternoon, beachgoers starting leave the beach & to head back to Suburbia. The "Strip" late at night, parties are going on, the nightlife here is HOT! This is the true Town Center of Port San Andreas, as you can see, like the "Strip", it too is quite built up. A street of well-to-do 1.5 million dollar homes on minute lots- That's what ya get in S. Coastal Texicota!!! These exclusive subdivisions are great alternative to suburban block living. The taxes here aren't bad due to the Industrial East Side of Town, and the proximity to downtown San Andreas couldn't be better... but, there is usually LOTS of traffic! Homes in this particular area start at around $849,999. A Closer look at a street in the sought-after Willoughby Subdivision. Tract homes on tenth-acre lots like these are all too common in S. Coastal Texicota, The demand for housing greatly outpaces supply so land is usually swallowed up in this manner. Homes in neighborhoods like these typically range from $599,999 to just over $700,000 A cheaper alternative to this areas over-priced single family real estate is tight condominium living. These are moderately priced at around $549,999. This is busy East Port San Andreas, where a huge porportion of the metropolitan area's industry is located. The bustling seaport imports and exports a wide range of goods to and from the area. Areas of high-tech industry such as this largely support the regions large and growing upper class. This historic lighthouse marks the entrance of the San Andreas River and helps guide ships into port during frequent rain and wind storms. The Industrial Area at night- quite a bright sight! Highridge Quintessential Victorian-Era Suburban Village NW of San Andreas Highridge provides a slower pace of metropolitan living in an idyllic atmosphere. Quiet, friendly neighborhood streets are lined with the wafting scent of orange, rose, and crepe myrtle blossoms. The hills surrounding the village provide breathtaking vistas of natural glory. An overview of the close-knit neighborhoods composing Highridge. Highridge is also a destination for the 'Old Money' crowd, whose homes dominate the ridge. A closer look into a quaint neighborhood "trapped" in time Some mansions overlooking the San Andreas Valley. A wonderful vintage cape cod home for sale at $1,399,999 The cost of real estate here is compensated by the small-town feel, convenience to S.A., and lack of commercial or industrial development. Stay Tuned for My Next Update in The Metropolitan San Andreas CJ.

Hope everyone likes this update, especially the close-up of a block... that turned out really well. I am starting to get the hang of this! Thanks to all helpers and commenters... not to mention the multitude of people contributing greatly needed props, textures, and buildings.

"From the pictures I have seen, many of the houses in your neighborhoods look the same, is that your objetcive? " I was actually attempting to acheive a more cookie-cutter look in my "newer subdivision" neighborhoods. But, yes I would like more variety in my "older" block neighborhoods. "well this is a cool city but im confused what pictures and such are we looking? " Captions describe pictures above them.

wow, it worked, now how do you all like it?
-
um and uh does anyone kno how to put pictures directly in replies?
-
why the f*%k can't i put more than one picture in my CJ???? i had all the pictures in the EDIT section to match w/ the captions and only the first one showed up... rly frusterating, i would have showed up real nice. I used photobucket to host my phots and so far its the only one w/o red Xs where the pic should be!!!!
-
ps im now gunna start on my Port San Andreas section, its a suburb/ industrial area southwest of SA on the SA river

i actually wanted to make the inner suburbs very dense and "griddy" because thats how inner suburbs look around my area.. and the ghetto, if i put parks, i would have to keep all the ghetto buildings historicalized in order to keep from being torn down, that is the only ghetto are of the city.. notice its in the south central are... hehehe and that and City of industry are the only two municipalities with such lower class areas. However, i do too think i may need a little more variation, but it gets hard when you lots of skyscrapers. i am startign to have difficulty developing the remaining vacant land in my city because the time slows down and sometimes stops on superspeed... its getting frusterating. ive tried altering graphics options and it really doesnt help too much.. any suggestions for that?

no, all the pics just came from the sc4 albums, but i did photoshop some of them

Have a little Q, how do you get the pictures bigger and use captions? I think it would really improve my CJ?
