What Music are you listening to right now?
Arrow replied to GingerBlokey's topic in General Off-Topic
Good old school Sevendust. Sevendust - Black -
Right now it's 37C with a heat index of 40C and a relative humidity of 80%. Extremely hot and muggy. Wonderful eh?

Paris, Tennessee, USA Or Paris, Texas for that matter. And yes they exist.

My amazing traffic loop of death! Apparently you can't make a right turn immediately after a left so instead they loop around the intersection.

It's got quite a bit on it right now, usually its my disk drive, recycle bin, and My Computer. I'm a bit of a clean freak that way.

How do you get hit-tech industry!?
Arrow replied to Mantis747's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Originally posted by: landen99 What if I want dirty industry in one area and clean, high-tech industry in another? How do I segregate the two without getting dirty industry to leave and all the low income sims without jobs and also vanishing.I thought about lowering taxes to zero for high tech until the sector is completely developed very quickly with high tech while opening areas in dirty industry areas so that dirty industry moves into the right area instead of trying to corrupt my clean areas. Another question related to industry in general about freight. Where do freight trucks need to go and how can rail help to get it there? Does it need a connection to commercial zones or to other industrial zones? Do you need to have freight stations and if so, where do you need them? at industrial zones? at commercial zones? Can rail lines become congested with freight trains or in combination with passenger trains? Thank you.quote> The best way to segregate is to build entirely seperate zone areas for them. IHT likes the same things that your R§§§ like, that is, highly desirable areas of land with good educational and health coverage. Fire and police is also a must. The biggest requirement of all is water. ID and IM can build without water just fine but IHT requires it. Zone yourself a small area of industrial close to housing (about a 5x5 zone) and then pay close attention to it. Make any IHT historical and bulldoze anything else if it starts to build. You have to be vigilant because if you look away for even a minute you can come back to other things than IHT. As for freight, they send it on the shortest path out of the city. Industrial thrives on the edge of a city tile because the freight trips are very short. Freight will travel on truck unless you provide a faster route on rail. Freight stations go next to industrial zones; the trucks will take their goods to the station and then the goods will exit the city on a train. For most industrial zones rail is inefficient because it's so much faster to simply truck things away. Freight will only seek a neighbor connection, paths to commercial will be unused. And yes rails can become congested just like roads can. -
Did you know: Maxis created 46 ordinances for use in SimCity4 however they only finished 16 of them. Since it's impossible to add new ordinances you have to pick one of the unused ones and convert it.

Imagine what SimCity 5 would be like if it supports PhysX Cards
Arrow replied to eangulus's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I'd much rather have a fully supported quad core processor since there really isn't much work for a dedicated PPU outside of maybe disasters or wrecks. However, NVidia also has that covered with their plan to put extra GPU power to work on physics calculations so only time will tell as to how much support Aegia gets for their PhysX cards. -
bharmala: You should only redo one or two blocks at a time; just enough to keep up with the demand for bigger buildings. The loss of desirability will be slight that way. Think of it as taking out a plaza in a long strip of them, you don't need them all for the area to be highly desirable so you don't see a very large effect when one gets destroyed. Also you can create park type areas out of whole other blocks if you so desire since you'll be getting much higher density buildings you can afford to spare some land.
-
Your problem is the way you zone commercial areas. For the very biggest commercial office buildings to develop they need at least a 4x4 area. Your layout provides a maximum of 3x3. My advice would be to remove both the plaza from the center and the commercial zones directly above and below it. That would give you a 9x6 zoned area which has enough space for the game to split up into some 4x4 and other sized lots.

Organzation is just chaos under a different label..

You can create as many subfolders within the Plugins folder as you like. The game will sort through everything inside it and load all the .dat plugin files when it starts. -
Production has come to a screeching halt
Arrow replied to phattonez's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Once the airport reaches about 20% efficiency (1 plane icon lit up) you should start to see a line in the news ticker about needing to expand. You may or may not ever see anything other than that ticker news item, I never do. Just watch out for it and click it if you see it; the dialogue box it pops up will give you the chance to expand. Make sure the land for 2 tiles around the airport is clear (assuming it's only connected by a road down one side). Thy451's articles on the Omnibus include stage caps and how to raise them. They are all in one article under SimCity 4 Reference I believe. -

Arrow replied to phattonez's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Keep in mind that the stage cap boosts from outside connections reduce as you add more of a certain type and the game lumps all outside connections from your city into one pool. The stage cap boost for roads falls off after the 4th one IIRC. You're better off tossing in a little bit of rail or maybe even a seaport if you have water. A highway will be the biggest boost (compared to the small airport you'd probably use) but if you're tight on money its a horrible expense to try and cover. -

Arrow replied to phattonez's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Possible you've hit a stage cap and need to increase the number of outside connections from your city. Add an airport if you don't already have one because it sounds like you're about the right size for one. Remember that each outside connection of the same type has a reduced stage cap increase to the point that anything past about the fourth one will be fairly pointless in terms of cap busting. Also try to spruce up some of those areas with things like large plazas and parks. -
I was playing with the actual SC4 music going a couple of days ago and heard a track that I just absolutely loved (normally I play with winamp on). This made me curious and got me thinking about what other people listened to while playing. So, what is your favorite SC4 music track if you even listen to SC4's music? For me it's definetly ElectriCITY. Its fast electronica styled beat just jumped right out at me and I loved the first time I heard it.

I've sat around just listening to that track for a while.

Loss of water and instant population loss for no reason?
Arrow replied to dmlow's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
dmrsunz: It sounds to me like your problem is that some of that overall capacity isn't connected to your residential zones. Check first to make sure that all your pumps/towers are connected even if you have some in dirty industrial sectors. Then check your pipes. They can breakdown over time which will stop water flow in that indivdual pipe so make sure you take a good long look at all of your piping to find any older broken pipes. -
The elementry schools have too little capacity!
Arrow replied to urielseptim2006's topic in SC4 Showcase
You can pick up Rush Hour for as little as $10.99 or SimCity 4 Deluxe (SC4+RH) for $19.99. You also have another option of editing your simcity_1.dat file to increase the capacity of each single school but that requires somewhat indepth knowledge of ilive's reader program which can be found in the Modds & Downloads section under Programs. -
Even with an air purifier there will still be some air polution. Air polution created by heavy traffic is currently impossible to remove but you would only see that on very densely populated roads.

There are really only a few truly useful ones. Pro reading for any city and clean air for pushing your city towards high tech industry come to mind.
