I'm looking forward to the new Friday night line up on the Sci Fi Channel.

The first version of BattleStar Galactica was a product of it's times.  It was trying to be a tv version of Star Wars, from the special effects to the movie westerns bravado type of plots to the John Williams score.

Today's audience has grown up with that for a long time, are more sophisticated and expects more.  The new version is supposed to be more psychological and scary -how does the shocked human race who are barely hanging on for dear life escape the evil, intelligent powerful robots that look just like humans and are hungry but patient for their extermination??  Edward James Olmos' version of Adama seems quieter, brooding and continually thinking, like the captain he played on Miami Vice.  The scientist who betrays everyone seems to be younger, more intelligent, more impressional, and more of a 3 dimensional person instead of a cookie cutter bad guy.   I see the potential for a lot more mind games & twists on this show.  However, it'll still attract the younger (and middle-aged3.gif guys) with the macho but sexy female Starbuck! 17.gif  Unfortunately it retains the original's goofy tech dialogue too; probably to remind us they're not from Earth.

It has potential and I won't need it to be like the old series to enjoy it.

Watched both episodes last night. So far so good.

One question though  aboutthe water, it was vented into space correct?
Why couldnt they have just recollected it from space? were it would have froze to ice.42.gif

I'm glad that you followed up on your post since bumping  (by me) is not allowed! 4.gif

I saw both episodes last night too and thought they were good.  It really isn't like the original show.

I'm sure there has to be holes in the science.  I have no clue either what happened to the water.  I'm also puzzled as to whether Baltar has schizophrenia or is talking to a real Cylon via a chip or something; maybe I missed  a set up about that in the miniseries.  I am glad they said something about the vast majority of planets being uninhabitable; that's more realistic than many of the other space shows where they run into inhabitable planets all of the time.

What the show missed in science fiction and spaceship fights I thought it more than made up for in drama.  They actually acted in this series.  And the tension was quite palpable.  The directing had that gritty home movie cut-n-closeup style that made me feel like I was watching NYPD Blue.  My wife watched it with me and hates that style.  At least she didn't notice or appeared jealous over the actresses who played Starbuck, Boomer, or Six.  4.gif (Or maybe I didn't notice her reaction to the actors who played Apollo or Baltar! 31.gif)

I did miss the John Williams score.  But this series required its quickening percussion that evokes tension and not a melodic bombast that evokes action.

    Cant wait till next friday.

Im realy wondering who the Cylon is. The way they are pushing Boomer it seem to odvious  for it to be her.Mabey the mechanic.....
Im also thinking that the Human Cylons are real humans ( but clones contoled by the machine cylons). And eventualy will rebel against the machine cylons.

    Me too.  1.gif

I'm pretty sure Boomer is a Cylon.  There is a copy of her helping out the mechanic she left on the planet.

I suspect that the origin and the nature of the Cylons along with why they want to kill humans & some of them have human memories is a part of the story that the show wants us to guess or figure out so that we'll keep watching.

This show was as tense as ever and not a spaceship fight anywhere to be seen.  Richard Hatch & his heir both held their own quite well.  I'll also be curious if the President's cancer heals or if their is some miraculous cure out there...maybe that'll depend on the ratings!3.gif

On Stargate SG-1 Amanda Tapping looks as good as ever!

    A 2 part episode !

So far so good, a lot of back ground about  Zack.
I assume that its Zacks picture taped to the wall of the pilots ready room?
I couldnt realy see a face or anything in the picture.

Yeah we also know Starbuck's real name -Thrace- and we got to see a spaceship fight too.  I like that this show's characters are more three-dimensional.

    Yeah Starbuck rocks! 39.gif39.gif39.gif

I guess the Cylons are seeming more Borg-like?42.gif

The tension on the show is what helps make it more like real life and not a space western like it's Star Wars wannabe predecessor.

Yeah, and how long can they keep Baltar going more crazy without everyone not paying attention and still keep it realistic.

Oh,  on StarGate SG-1,  maybe it's just me, but I liked Michael Shank's Dr. Daniel Jackson character when he was more nerdy and less buff action hero.

On StarGate Atlantis, with the constant use of their stargate I didn't realize until this episode that they hadn't explored all of the city yet.

Now they have a Raider.. whatever will they do with it..

My bet is a mabey a virus that breaks down the biological part of cylons. which wont affect normal humans.38.gif

But are the human/cylon clones normal humans?28.gif

mabey it will kill everybody ! 46.gif

    The possiblitys are stagering !37.gif

The Virus gets loose! They have to destroy another ship full of civilians to stop it ! 11.gif
    It dont work!7.gif

The Cylon/humans are not so human and it dont affect them.35.gif

    I should apply as a plot writer.49.gif

This episode (02/11/05) was a good thriller.  After the tribunal  it's looking like the Chief might now finally suspect that Boomer is a cylon.  I'm still not sure if she suspects.1.gif

I know the plot also had to rely on the stranded crewman to look for her on the planet, but I would have felt better if he looked for his ship instead.  He seems to be like a rat in a maze.  I wonder if the character is realizing how easy things are coming for him.42.gif

I also like how Olmos' version of Adama is comfortable with both being macho and being in touch with & still accepting his humanity.  That's a mark of maturity.10.gif

Oh,  the explosion on the Galactica was pretty cool too!9.gif

    Nice episode

    WITCH HUNT !! 22.gif

I did like the way Adama just shut them down when they got too pushy , During the  questioning he reminded my of the  Sam waterson charactor from  Law& Order.

    .
Maybe he is a rat in a maze, and they want to find out how far love will push a normal human.
Mabey its an emotion they are not sure they want. So far my theory about the human/cylon  types eventualy rebelling against the machine type cylons is holding true. other wise why would they not have just let the stranded guy get back to galactica  with  Boomer2 or  just kill him

The Boomer on Galactica may now be a problem,Since chief dumped her she may not be able to break programing anymore.

Baltar could be in trouble no wtoo paople are noticing he talkes to himself and with the paranoia
about the Humantype  cyclons people will start to suspect him. 38.gif

    quote>
Yeah this Friday was good on the Sci-Fi Channel clear across the board this week!!

Last week, while BattleStar Galactica was terrific as always, I thought the StarGates were very formulaic.  Ronny Cox finally Gou-ald (sp?), big deal.  Atlantis, a romance?? -it would been better for the plot and not opened a lot of holes if she had been a Wraith instead.

This week:  SG-1 was whimsical w/out being soppy; I have a better appreciation for General O'Neal's love for The Simpsons.

Atlantis actually answered as many questions as it asked this week.  It got weird w/out straining creduility.

BattleStar Galactica:  I wondered right until the very end how Baltar was going to get of his predicament and he had better watch his back.

My new theory: The humans in this series were initially monotheistic (believed in a one god) and eventually became polytheistic or pantheistic and the Cylons were created by a mad human scientist with a messianic complex who want(s, ed?) to punish his fellow species for blasphemy.  I wonder if Number Six sees him in her mind?

Two other things that is setting the show apart in cliche-breaking way:  1) However many episodes run so far and they still yet to run into another alien species! and 2) People who get injured and wind up in the hospital aren't automatically getting up out of the hospital bed and flying or stopping bad guys immediately the next episode!!

I agree, Although i like the fact Starbuck is still inside the cylon ship when the episode ended.

    On another note:

ST: Enterprize is in its final few shows. Was supprized to find this was its last season,

I was just starting to realy like this  ST incarnation, now its ending 7.gif.

Wonder if they have another series planed or if they will let it die.

    02/26/05
    Nice episode friday.

Interogation, good cop, bad cop. Shoved out an airlock.46.gif

I read in TV Guide that she probably will.  What fun!19.gif  I also like that she, the mild-mannered Agricultural (?) Secretary- turned President & cancer victim turned out to be tougher & less susceptible to mind games than hot-shot fighter pilot Starbuck.

The two Stargates are still somewhat bland, even when they are saving the universe (again).  I liked the line fr last week's SG-1 fr the barbershop customer in Citizen Joe: Just how many times can SG-1 save the world fr Apothis??17.gif Star Trek Enterprise is getting beaten and cancelled for this??

Thier rateing must have sufferd bad when they mover them up against Star gate/BSG/farscape/andromeda on fridays when they have been on for so long on Wensdays.

It look like they are wraping the whole thing up for ST. ( a shame since Enterprize was  just getting interesting.) cause they did Explained were the Humanish looking Klingons came from that Kirk met. they were enhanced or in this case victems of the Virus, which may have explaned why they were wiped out by the rest of the klingons, victims of  plauge would have been considered Weak and  un able to  propogate thier species. and the Normal Klingons just killed them all.

    Yes that should be interesting.

The Boomer Model dont seem to be liked by the Blond one, now that i think about it She dont seem to like other women at all. very jelious withthe other women that are attracted to baltar. and now you besides Starbuck you have to throw in  Col Tieghs  wife too( who may or may not be a cylon).

And Baltar  releaising  false test results could be a problem.

Yeah, BSG did the trick: it gave us action without losing the drama.44.gif And interestingly it was Apollo & not Starbuck who engaged in the spaceship derring-do!!  I think the fans deserved the victory.

It looks like Boomer on the planet is proving your theory about the Cylon's intentions.

Oh, and we thought Baltar was already losing it, now the Cylons appear to be setting him up for a Messianic complex.

    Very nice episode friday.

    Political intrigue.
Baltar takes another step to Martyrdom  if  the  jealous cylon dont rip his heart out.
Helio bolted after realizing boomer was a cylon. Wonder if the blond set it up that way, she seems intent on being  jealous and just not a happy person/cylon.
Im begining to wonder in the nonhuman cylons built the clones with only some emotions in certian types. To study how emothions work.
Very bummed only 2 episodes left in season one.
Looks to be a very lean summmer for scifie shows.
Mabey they will run B5 again.

Helo seems to have more of a clue what's going than everyone on the ships.  The Boomer on Caprica seemed genuinely hurt when he figured out she was a Cylon and deserted her.  I'm sure they are using him to connect in some weird way with their creator.

Upstairs (in the ships), the show sometimes seems like an evening soap opera.  I think Tigh's wife will lead to his downfall & that is why we've never seen the actor's name listed in the opening credits.  Even though Baltar keeps walking a very thin line, I think the character's  charisma and genius balances against his clumsiness and deviousness and is going to keep him on the show for awhile.  Even though he's dangerous and is going to be a part of plots to come, I don't think Zarek has a clue about the Cylons.

The SciFi Channel basically runs two seasons a year.  While it's annoying,  it's sometimes less annoying than the networks interspersing repeats between first run episodes throughout a longer season or the premium channels creating a season whenever they want one.

I kind of liked the near concluding episodes of SG-1 and Atlantis.  I think Amanda Tapping overacted in SG-1; I never thought of Samantha Carter as nerdish & maybe the actress didn't either, which might explain why she overplayed the character's alternate self.  I think the Ancients will somehow play a role in saving Atlantis during the Wraith.

I'll probably use the reruns to catch up on the final Enterprise episodes I hadn't seen yet.

    quote>

Nothing against her but Michael Shanks is more my type.   I'll take Daniel any day.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis
