The people are travelling to the library. They jump between walking and subway.

the transportation network looks like this:
R: road
S: subway station
RRSSRRSSRRSS

see how far they have actually walked.

I want to know why they can walk that far. Is it because they jump between subway and walking or because they are travelling to a civic building?

The only mod i am using is NAM.

without nam sims will walk up to 8 tiles .You photo is much less then 8 at a time.
nam has manny different speed files so using name you can get them walking 40d tiles .
and with just one change to the transportation file You sims would all be FLASH faster then a spedding bullet . able to walk accross the whole region in under 20 minits .

look closer, every pink arrows travel 2 tiles, so they surely add up to more than 8 tiles.
I have not changed the speed or anythin, jst use the NAM as is.

When sims are travelling to work, is there a time penalty (or bonus) for using a subway station?

    Hi,

I think recently, the Traffic Plugin Modd and Automate plugin Files formed a part of the latest version of NAM. If you set those options to 'standard' when you first installed NAM, that might work.

it would seem as though your sims are riding the subway from one end of the platform to the other.21.gif

I've seen stuff like this before, it's just a harmless bug.

As long as they're getting to work fine, it really doesn't matter if they're doing goofy things along the way. Just file this one with all the other pictures of pathfinding siliness. In the Fun Screen Shots thread, perhaps.

If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

With some modding options sims will normally prefer the quickest travel option. In an unmodded game only medium wealth sims will choose the quickest option (R$ prefer public transport, R$$$ prefer car).

Since subway is faster than walking your sims are probably choosing it, even if it is for only one tile, since its quicker than walking that tile. Where subway is not available or takes a round about route, walking a more direct route may be quicker, so your sims journey is made of a combination of choices depending which option is faster for those tiles.

In areas of my cities where I put a bus stop on either side of the road because of high usage, my sims catch a bus across the road, then walk through the lanes I place between blocks, instead of catching the bus around the block. Same reason, catching the bus across the road is apparently faster than walking across it.

If the only mode of transportation is walking, a R$ Sim will walk up to 23 tiles to get to work.

With your technique, they seem to walk further.

But they aren't. Actually, they are walking half way and riding the subway the other half. You just have in broken up in segments of two's which makes it look like they are walking almost twice the distance.

This is possible because riding a subway is faster than walking. So your Sims are willing to travel farther.
