Ok. I want to start a new region, new so no cities are build yet and I know there won't be any demand. But I have in mind big good lookin cities, not crappy cities with agriculture, dirty industry, and low wealth RES. Any tips on how to start a new region without having to put agriculture or crap industry ? Or do you have to when you start ?

HELP ME PLZ !!

This is what you should do,zone high res first, raise taxes on any thing you don't want, lower taxes on everything you do want, then build away

You really do need either agriculture or dirty industry and low wealth residential when you start out your regions. If you design them well they don't need to look ugly.

Some people might say you can do without by taxing or using certain mods, but it has been my experience that you can't get very far this way. It just leads to unbalanced cities that don't grow much, and are harder to play in the long run.

I don't know of any mods that will let you get around this situation.

Besides, there is nothing better than lots of dirty industry for making lots of money. Then you can make the other parts of the city look nicer.

I think first you need to understand how the game works as you seem to be currentley trying to make the game do something it was not designed to do.

Your cities will start with lower density and $ due to the lack of disirability but when you develop a good education, health, water, garbage and park system your city will start to atteact $$ and $$$. Then when your city is big enougth you can get high density development (have you seen a skycraper in a village before). Also remember taxes AFFECT development NOT control .

Not exactley, you start of a bit like real life with only basic (not nesesariley crappy) cities and eventually end up with more advanced one's.19.gif

What i meant by crappy is like poluted, low wealth, and stuff, like my first cities in a region are like no sky scrapers until like 100 000 ppl, poluted with dirty industry, i dont put farms, and a tiny bit of hi tech mixed with manifacturing. I hate startin new regions.

the reason you dont get skyscrappers till 100k pop is because that is exactly the way the game was programmed to work.  it is called stage caps and is a fundamental part of SC4 game play.  the higher your population the more big buildings you can have.  Think about it for a second.  if your population is only 5k you cant really have tall sky scrappers since each sky scrapper can hold 3k-5k people.  your entire city would be in a single building!

starting a new region is the most difficult thing to do IMO.  one way to lower pollution for ID is to build a neighbor city next to your main city and have all the ID buildings in that new city.  you dont need to have all three types of zones in every city.  the sims are able to commute to neighbors to get work just as easily as driving down the street.

    some quick tips are:
export ID and IM to a neighbor city.
start with education early to increase commercial and IHT demand.
    zone out before zoning up.
you dont need farms.  only build farms in neighbors or if you really want to.
read my post on money saving tips

hope that helps and dont give up!

Thanks a lot for you tips soldyne. I like the water treatment one, not to put all the civic stuff at the same spot, i never tried that. also, the garbage one, if you put the funding to 0$ for the garbage burner plant, it still burns 499 tons of garbage, so its free even tho it pollutes.

Actually, in cities where i have more demand, i get commercial skysrcapers at 20 000 !

Thanks everyone for your tips, very appreciated 29.gif19.gif44.gif40.gif3.gif
