Hjoi - A growing Canadian city

'Hjoi' is a North Eastern Canadian City located on Baffin Island. Its northerly latitude means that the city experiences arctic winters but reasonably mild summers. 'Hjoi' is a name of unknown origin, though it is widely believed to be a strain of 'Old Norse' spoken by Vikings of the 3rd century A.D. Nothing is known of these Vikings however, it is thought that they embarked on a voyage of discovery and so the predictable Atlantic winds carried them westward towards Baffin island, though the environmental extremes proved too costly on their resources and so, no official trading outpost was created. All that remains of their voyage are two bones of two Viking men in a sacred burial mound beneath the church and buried with them two engraved wooden Amulets depicting what is believed by some to be their Viking Gods, though the identity of whom remains unknown. The church, it is believed, also dates back to the 3rd century and its spires were created in the style of Viking architecture as a homage to them.

In modern times, 'Hjoi' is experiencing rapid growth as the peoples from Scandinavia seek to reclaim 'Hjoi' from Canada and return it to their nearest government of authority: Iceland. Although the people of 'Hjoi' are Canadian natives, a recent genetic censuses estimates that at least 25% are of Scandinavian heritage. The average Canadian has only around 5% Scandinavian heritage and so, the people of 'Hjoi' are considered by some, 'immigrants' in Canada. Scandinavian Airlines offers its cheapest fairs exclusively for 'Hjoi's' people so flight times from 'Hjoi' to Oslo have been cut to 1 hour when flying directly over the North Pole. This makes Scandinavia a popular location for many given that the nearest Canadian city, Halifax,  is a 2 hour flight away.

Now the rate of development of the Downtown area has increased by 200% in the last year alone. This is largely due to immigration from Scandinavia but also the cities excellent health and social system. There are two city schools, one elementary school and one High school, both of which are equipped with baseball fields, tennis courts and volleyball courts and were awarded 5/5 stars in the recent inspection. The clinic, though small, offers free health insurance and a second ambulance has been ordered to relief the cities growing pains! Ambulance response times are estimated to be the lowest in all of Canada.

5 new high end stores have recently landed in the city as well as a 'Mc Donalds'. By next year, however, the downtown area will be 200% bigger as more companies pour their investments into the city and this will mean the jobs created will ensure 0 unemployment rates across the city.

The biggest question in the news at this time is, will the Canadian Flag be replaced with the flag of Iceland, Norway, Sweden or Denmark. Will Canada give up 'Hjoi' to Scandinavia!? How different will 'Hjoi' look with all of this city 'change' that's happening?
