Welcome to Simtropolis, hitchins!44.gif

First of all, you're not dim.  Everyone has questions, and there is no need to apologize for asking one either.  However, I will tell you that you did place this thread in the wrong forum.  It would have been better to place it in the General SC4 Discussion forum.  Don't worry about getting it wrong once in a while, because everyone does it, and I have once myself.  You'll figure it out pretty soon.

If you want to learn more about region designing and general city building, then I suggest that you take a trip by the City Journal forum.  Some of the cities and regions that are built and showcased there are absolutely amazing.  As for the concrete slabs that you have seen around other people's roadways, well you can find them here .

Have fun while your here!

Hi and welcome to the wonderful world of Simtropolis. Many cities, one comminuty

First of all, don't under estimate your skills, you are not dim, you just have to learn the basics, the omnibus is a great place to start learning the ropes as we say

Secondly, your region can be as beautiful as you want it to be, simply use your imagination and believe me, it works most of the time when you really dedicate time and effort when building a city. I understand how you feel right now because we were all newbies at some point but we have all learnt by getting inspiration from the cj-masters such as jeronij and jarnomiedema. Have a look around and don't forget to download some BATs from the STEX, without the stex, the regions that you saw would never be as beautiful as they are. If you need any kind of help, simply sende me a personal message or PM.

-Phil.

P.S. once again, welcome and good luck.

It takes time and patience to create the masterpieces you see in the CJ forum, if you dedicate yourself to it, and have the proper resources (BAT's, mods..) you'll be well on your way to creating your own work of art 2.gif.

Try reading some of the tutorials in the Omnibus to get a better feel for the game, and some tips for creating realistic looking cities.
