Desperately need some help with SC4 here...

I am reinstalling the original basic version of the SC4 game on to my desktop. Breezed through the two disks, after 2 tries (1st one hung up on sound.dat at 39%) and reached the end of installation. Now, rather than boot up the game the disk runs but no prompts come up? I've tried to autorun, rungame, everything I can think of on disk 1 and 2. I have played the Cosmi version of this game on here before--no problems. This is an original EA distribution and the only thing I have changed since uninstalling the Cosmi distro is to install Simcity (2013). DirectX is still 9.0c, dual-core nothing special. Running Windows XP 32-bit, and added a 3rd 1gig stick and change the memory recognization by the operating system so that it will recognize 3gigs. Is that the problem? I really want to play this game again! I'm baffled!

I'll take whatever help I can get!

Thanks!

Checked the driver for the Asus DVD-RW and it is up-to-date. Game has installed but when I click play it runs but nothing happens. What in the world is going on here. I've played the game on this pc before!?! Any ideas where I might check next?

    thanks!

Even more interesting: I couldn't run the base game of disk 1, but when I installed my Rush Hour disk and installed it, it launched the game? What in the world is going on here? I know many like to play with RH but I wanted to run on the base game :(

Check your task list for a zombie.  (CTRL+ALT+DEL) should take you to the task manager.  If there is a dead copy of the game lying around it stops another instance from running.
