Neanderthals gradually became modern humans through evolution.

So, what you're trying to say is once an evolutionary path branches off into two separate species, it's totally possible for one of those (despite being isolated from the other for half a million years) to evolve into it's own highly different species, but then somehow further evolve and turn into an exact duplicate of it's close cousin? So, you're trying to say that every species on the planet could evolve into a human?

Okay, with that logic gorillas will gradually become modern humans through evolution, along with komodo dragons, deep-sea lobsters, the irukandji jellyfish, psilocybin mushrooms, and brown algae kelp... Ah, now I see what you've been trying to say about evolution!!! Life makes more sense all of a sudden!!! :P

. Unrelated creatures can't ever evolve into humans. Plants can't evolve into animals.  People evolve into people, not fish! Evolution does not work that way like magic. Let's avoid taking shots at the members, shall we?--hym

This is likewise unnecessary and not helpful.--hym

Okay, tell me then... How do you think evolution works? (Before reading further look at the diagram below, and refer to it as you read on) So, since Paranthropus Robustus and Paranthropus Boisei were both earlier offshoots from the hominini branching... If they hadn't gone extinct would you say they would've eventually evolved into modern humans?

Say you have species A, and species A separates out over time to create two new species that we'll call B and C. So, why would B eventually turn into C? There's nothing in biology nor chemistry that allows for such a thing to occur. With that logic Paranthropus Robustus and Paranthropus Boisei would've both ended up turning into humans.

Are you also saying that fish didn't evolve into early amphibians, which didn't have a branch that evolved into early reptiles, which didn't have a branch that eventually created all the early mammals, which didn't have a branch that turned into the first primates, which didn't have a branch that turned into the apes, which didn't have a branch that lead to homininis?

Please explain to us how you think evolution works, and in detail, it would be much appreciated! I'm curious to see your complete perspective.

Given enough time and the right circumstances humans can totally evolve into fish actually, All life started at the bottom of the ocean, as bacteria, and now it looks like this. As long as there is life, it can evolve in every direction.

Well, maybe not exactly fish, at least not exact duplicates of anything around today (which I'm currently trying to show that it's practically impossible for anything to ever evolve into an exact duplicate of any other species). It's like if one day modern day gorillas eventually evolve to become exact duplicates of a chimpanzee... It's completely impossible and bogus, it's essentially what Konst is implying by saying Neanderthals evolved into humans, when instead they had clearly been separated out into two separate branches. It just doesn't make any sense!

And yes! Sure, we can totally go back to becoming something aquatic, I don't see why not! Also, I think Konst was referring to something else, either that or he misread my post... (yet again) -____-

Oh no, I didn't mean to say that we would turn into a goldfish or something. But humans could totally evolve to become an aquatic species, given enough time and under the right circumstances.

Though, isn't it theoretically possible for one species to evolve in such a way that they essentially become like the other species? Only I imagine it would take so much time that once they get there the species they looked like has already evolved into something new, or has died off by then. That is disregarding the odds of course, which I know make it as good as impossible.

    Convergent evolution?

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Convergent evolution?  Rather an oxymoron since diversity seems to be the goal of evolution.  Developing common traits is one thing, but comparing the flight of insects to birds is going rather far out on the evolutionary branch.

Looking for parallels there we find birds and fixed wing aircraft; bumblebees and helicopters.  There are many cases where engineering imitates nature.  These are quite often the most successful inventions.

GM goats are now producing the world's strongest material from nature: spider silk.

Insects and birds both use wings to fly don't they? The fact that both have wings is the converging trait.

And diversity is not the goal of evolution as evolution has no stated goal. Diversity is merely a by product of evolution and the way it works. In any case, there are simply a number of traits that work really well for a lot of species. Wings is one thing, heads, exoskeletons, legs, etc all very useful traits to have for a lot of organisms. So at some point, a lot of organisms will evolve such a thing.
