Hello everyone. Long time SimCity player, recent Cities XL 2012 addict. Playing the beta last weekend got me back into the city building crave and I started to get into Cities XL 2012, a game I had for a long time but initially ignored because of how different it was from SimCity.

After spending several days figuring out how to build a city, then 12 hours realizing that trading is a must in this game, I had a series of successful cities that supported each other. I have now run into a problem in my industrial city.

After gaining the ability to zone high density heavy industry and high density manufacturing, I completely demolished everything and everyone in my industrial city except three high-volume city links. I then built a section of high density heavy industrial and high density heavy manufacturing, and relocated the resource center and city hall. I am importing more than the required amount of unskilled workers, skilled workers, executives, water, fuel and office. I am exporting garbage. There is no need for elites. Basically I have no deficit of anything. My city is also making money in its current state due to token trading. However, none of the job locations will build up and start making business. Prior to this giant rebuilding I was able to keep some citizens and import the rest while building up the required population to unlock high density industry. Currently, if I add a small block of houses the workers will fill up a few jobs, but then the rest of my industry will not fill up with imported workers. When I go into my metropolis it says all of the workers that I export to the industrial city have a job, and I have no industry at all in the metropolis, yet they are not going to work in the industrial city. Am to understand that it is impossible to have a city full of industry exclusively and import all citizens? Kind of a bummer because I wanted to maximize my output without taking up space for homes and city services.

Unfortunately, imported workers only count for MegaStructures and Blueprints, they will not work in your businesses.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Thank you for your help. I now have another 24 hours in this game (girlfriend at parent's and no exams coming up) and I have come to fully realize the intricacies of the trade system, which is essential to making cities work. I have 5 specialized cities with a world population of 800,000. This game is amazing, and I think I now know where the creators of the new SimCity got all their new ideas.
