Drunkapple's Chicago Region

Hi there, I'm working with Drunkapple's glorious Chicago region, but running into a small problem.

Namely, the water level is so high (or land is so low?) that I can't build underpasses(tunnels) or sunken highways at the proper level to work well with the NAM overpasses and such.

My question is, is there a way to effectively raise the level of the terrain while keeping the water level constant?

    Thanks!

If you mean the river downtown then are you using a canal system or no? Or maybe raise the terrain enough to build the sunken highways?

No, not on a region-wide scale. You could use god-mode terraforming tools to raise the terrain one city at a time, but anything you'd built would be destroyed and the harbors & piers that are inherent to that particular map would all jump ten meters or so above water level. The same loss of waterside areas would occur if you started from scratch and re-rendered the map in SC4 Terraformer with higher import settings. Your only option is to forgo sunken networks on land that is lower than 265 meters and use FLUPs and overpass puzzle pieces for intersections & interchanges. To see the elevation of a terrain tile, open the cheat input box by hitting CTRL+X, then type "terrainquery" (without the quotes) and hit ENTER. The query tool will now display some terrain information. The Y-coordinate is the elevation, X and Z are grid positions. Sea level is always 250 meters, and sunken highways are usually 15 meters deep. If you get sick of seeing the extra data in the query, use "terrainquery off."

Hm, that's what I figured/was afraid of. I met with some success raising the whole region using SC4Terraformer's tool, but I thought I'd ask if there was a more appropriate trick. Thanks!

    G'Day,

Your road ditches need to be above 265m absolute elevation otherwise you will strike game water and well, otherwise you'll be building canals. I think from memory I lowered Chicago about 170m to get the lake and rivers in.

    Cheers
