Disc Drive won't stay closed.

Hey everyone , so I wanted to play Simcity last night and then this happened , when I put in the disc in stayed closed for 2 seconds and ejected open again. Just for information my eject button is not stuck , I shut off / restarted my computer , My computer is a Windows Vista E Machines and I looked around for help on the Web. Also I was wondering if anyone else had this same problem before with their computer or should I run the computer in safe mode.

The only reason for an eject that I can think of other than hardware failure is that the disk is unrecognizable. Check the recording side for damage, and if it is nice and shiny, you can rule that out. A deep scratch may have destroyed the recording surface, in which case you get to buy the game again.

Try loading a different disk. If it ejects a known good disk, then you have a dead disk drive, and it should be replaced.

Of course it works. I have two external HDD. USB is the greatest thing for peripherals. Most of mine are on USB ports, of which I have about a dozen.

Meanwhile, will that in-board drive accept a blank disk? If not, it is really pork.
