SC5-Protest against Will Wright, Maxis and EA

Can you please mention that the website is not yet completed. Thanks.

Regarding the fact that it might not be worth it, we will just have to wait and see. Even if EA doesn't want to make a new game, perhaps the site will make them consider releasing the source code. With that we could basically transform the game into Simcity 5 ourselves. Another option would be to make another expansion pack or release another update.

Maxis have closed the topic :(

Well that sucks. I don't know if this is worth it. If somebody else wants to create a Simcity 5 site they can, but I just don't have the time to.

Personally I beleive it's well past time that we stop moaning about why maxis/EA won't make a simcity 5 (they won't, and if they do it'll suck as much as civ V, modding for it is dead thanks to DLC). It's well past time we created our own citybuilder game, such as a simcity 4-inspired but improved clone... :whatevs:

I would consider SC4+ An adaquite amount of mods, IS this simcity 4-inspired clone you speak of. The difference between SC4+RH and the small amount of mods I have, ends in 2 completely different games And alot of people have many more mods and buildings then I do. If the community were to build its own real game, it would be have to be so far advanced that it would have to be able to do what sc4 cant... which is almost nothing. We have thousands of buildings, many network types and an unlimited amount of textures, so you could turn a basic boring SC4 into almost anything you would want in SC5 already. Which is why id much rather see a source code over a SC5. And the chances of EA doing a proper job on SC5 is slim to none, we would have to drop our standards below that of what SC4+Simtrop/SC4D already is.

Im not anti SC5, Id love to see a proper successor to the series but you got to think realistically.

EA releasing the source of simcity 4? I find it unlikely, if not impossible. The thing is, simcity 4 is getting outdated and losing compatibility fast with modern hardware, and we could do better than it.

Each SimCity game was unique. Will Wright himself said that he had nothing to do with SimCity 4 and disliked the direction it went. Therefore, ABSOLUTELY NO COMPANY WILL EVER make a next-gen, updated, or 3D remake of SimCity 4! Cities Unlimited was the closest thing and see what it did to Monte Cristo.

Good luck ;-P

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Well yes I agree with Djohaal- and one from scratch rather than a source code would allow for original development ideas.

One thing that imo should be done if possible is to get rid of the outdated grid system, just how that is done I would not know as in my game Virtucity I am using... grids. Free placement and turning of a full 3d object is easy enough, but for pseudo 2.5D or wtvr? A major decision would be whether to develop it in full 3D and hope computers become very powerful soon, or to have it like 4 in 2.5D.

Computers can support full 3D graphics in a city simulator nowadays. We've reached the point that Will Wright talked about a decade ago, where games can be 10GB or more in size, computers have 4GB RAM on average, and graphics cards with 1GB of VRAM are becoming more and more common. Multi-core processors would allow the core simulation to be split into multiple threads (one dedicated entirely to the traffic simulation, for example), and powerful modern graphics technology allows for sprawling, realistic 3D worlds. Cities XL showed us where the city builder genre can go graphically; the only thing left now is to create such a game with a simulation as deep as SC4.

Well in that case then I reckon it should be done. A full 3d Simcity is something I've wanted since I started playing Simcity 2000 back in 03. I guess Game Maker's speed limitations convinced me full 3d was a thing of the future for games, as I've not really played many 3d games with large map sizes

Monte Cristo did themselves in by their own undoing. By taking a wrong turn mid-development, having the "Planet Offer" and basically raising their middle finger to single player, they doomed themselves.

^This. MC screwed themselves over by deliberately and willfully ignoring the demands of their customer base in order to crap out some poorly made MMO that no sane person would have called a good product. Before Cities Unlimited became Cities XL, and the focus was on the city simulation (rather than some stupid gimmick that a marketing team composed of high school dropouts came up with), it actually had a good chance at taking SC4's place in the next decade as the staple city building game of the world.

Another thread that screams: I W4N7 M4H SIM CI7Y 5!

Stop putting this threads, it's just very dumb. Because you can rant all you want but EA will not stand up and say: "Alright, we will see what we can do."

Also, Will Wright is no longer in Maxis, so don't expect something as SC4 if it happened, it would be SCS rip-off, for sure.

There should just be one thread for the discussion of Simcity 5 and that is it. All other threads should be merged with it. Maybe I will create one.

You may discuss SC5 here.

Topic locked.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.
