Never had this before, and I suspect nothing can prevent it, since I tried to reproduce it, and nothing happened.

I was terraforming a city I wanted to start, and it resulted in what I new would be a change next door, so I saved where I was then moved to the next city and clicked on reconcile edges. This, of course, raised the dickens with my existing stuff, but I wanted to rethink that city any way so I issued the Obliterate command. In the middle of all this, just about the time it was rewriting the disk, the game crashed. When I reopened the city, it was flat and green. All the terraforming had been lost.

This happened in the Fairview region, which is a challenge anyway, so I recopied the entire region from the base. I've only been set back a couple of days. This is yet another good reason to carry external backups. Alas, my last backup was before I started on this region.

Nansi Moo:

To keep away from stress,

Every month or less

Make a backup for resetting

Take precautions, no regretting

And thus no distress.

This message I impress

And problem I address.

All:

With concentration that's intense I play this game and more, but the laws of common sense we oughtn't to ignore. If what you say is true, 'tis best to make one do. To stop a pretty state of things, here is quickly what to do. Stop a pretty state of things, a pretty state of things.

(With apologies to Sirs William S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan).

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

My object all sublime, to backup all the time,

Then let the CTDs fall in rhyme, the CTDs fall in rhyme.

If we are going to play with Mikado, I'm glad the copyrights have expired.

By the way, Gilbert never did get a knighthood, only only Sullivan for "Onward Christian Soldiers".

I use SC4 Watcher (by Doc Rorlach) to automatically do backups when I play. It has saved me frustration a few times.

SC4 Watcher certainly looks interesting. I merely use the Save Alarm Mod, which doesn't backup my cities but does remind me to save frequently.

By the way, Gilbert never did get a knighthood, only only Sullivan for "Onward Christian Soldiers".

Sir W. S. Gilbert was knighted in 1907 for contributions to drama.

Well, it was deserved. I felt he had been slighted for a long time. I think Victoria was miffed with him. Live and learn.
