I think i learned that radiation from a plant explosion lasts for well longer than 1000 sim years. Basically, if your plant explodes, exit to region without saving, and then reload the city tile and then demolish the plant as soon as possible, so it wont explode again. That's the only sure way of saving your city.

@Z1: No, like i said, he can just exit without saving, come back in and demolish his plant, saving his city.

That is, if you've already saved the tile after the explosion, then, yeah, kinda out of luck. You'll have to wipe clean the tile and start over. (Not the whole region mind you, just the tile)

The idea of a nuclear power plant exploding caters to NIMBY fears of nuclear power. It is nonsense these days. I don't use the in-game nuke plants for this reason, but I have my own. If you demolish it, it saturates your city with carbon 14, but otherwise is stable.

Nuclear power plants designed by the Maxis team were based on the BWRs used in the U.S. at the time of the game, which are still in use. There have been a few incidents, but nothing like the mess that occurred at Chernobyl, which was running a carbon-moderated Chicago Stadium reactor, very much like the Fermi original. It was probably made from plans stolen by the KGB during the cold war.

My plant uses anti-matter, which explains the LHC ring that is included. The fuel is water and air pollutants, and it outputs no garbage. If you look closely at the ring, you'll see the sparkle in the air from the static discharges of the LHC ring.

To properly operate this plant you need lots of water. I suggest the Artesian Water collector.

I really like the new STEX. It seems to be working fine now.

I am sure you noticed that this did not post your image as it is on your local machine. You need to upload your picture to an image hosting site like Photobucket, then plant the image using the URL you get from them.

You could use this [link], but it does need to stay there for the duration of the radiation,

I didn't know this exist and I have been known to bestow my cities with NP. They will be much happier now that there will be a response team who will be dedicated to the task of keeping them safe. Thanks so much.

And use solar in its place? What if you were on the other side of the moon?

There's always the hydrogen fusion plant. I personally don't use it because it's expensive as hell and I can manage my nuke plants, but if you're afraid of your city getting irradiated by a freak accident it's a good alternative to nukes.

Do a search for the Mayhem Device on the STEX. I will see if I can find the linky for you.

EDIT: Here it is.

You can place it next to your reactor if you want to use that as your backdrop. If you want to show a terrorist attack you can use any backdrop you wish. Enjoy!
