There's actually a dorm at Manhattan College that permits you to walk to class (at least on the main campus) downhill both ways. The building is built into the side of a very steep hillside. The front door on the ground floor is downhill from the main part of campus. The back door on the 8th (!) floor is uphill from the main part of campus. Use the elevator to get to and from your floor, go out the back and in the front, and bam! Downhill walk both ways.

That's kinda neat, I have to trudge (well, I usually run up it) up a ~50 ft hill after school to my dad's apartment (when I'm at my mom's, my bus drops me off right in front of it, how convenient ). In the morning its a matter of stopping before you run into the road

When Manhattan College moved up to Riverdale in the 1920's, they intentionally put it in a very hilly spot so there would be lots of stairs and students and faculty would get plenty of exercise. It obviously wan't considered at the time, but today this means that handicapped acessibility on campus is rather inconvenient (and in a few cases even nonexistant).

I personally do not get why anyone would ride a bicycle around a city. Seems dangerous to me. What with the fact that you're mixing with traffic and all... basically asking to get run over.

I also view a bicycle as a purely recreational vehicle. No matter what the circumstance, I would not want to have to rely on one as a means of getting from A to B. Too much exposure to the elements.

ETA: Well, I view bicycling as a purely recreational sport as well. Here in the temperate and lush (cold and rainy) Pacific Northwest, bicycling is no fun in the winter. On the other hand, in terms of energy used per mile, bicycling is the most efficient means of transporting one person.

I thought that the Random Factory would have links to other random forums or have completely random forum games like type down one minute of a phrase repeated consecutively, examples: It's "Doc Gerbil's World" and "Buy Flantasy Flan" (the first things that came to mind were from a 1990's TV show). I guess the thread that I post in the most is the most random of all the allowed threads here.
