Overpolicing

Are there any significant detrimental effects to your city if your police coverage is beyond the optimal amount?  I have the safety advisor and MySims complaining about overpolicing in some of my cities and not every single square there has police coverage.  However, the only city that I've experienced a riot is was one where the police coverage was excessive combined with a negative mayor rating..  will overpolicing increase the risk of riots?

I'm not sure about rioting, but that message is most likely because one or more of your police stations is too highly funded for the level of crime in the area. More funding means more coppers, and when they get bored they go out and arrest people for nothing... at least I think that's the idea. Try balancing the funding for the troublesome station/s and see if that helps.

Also, oppresive police can't cause rioting. Rioting occurs when your mayor rating gets detrimentally low.

I have occasionally noticed that if I place another police station to tackle an area of crime already covered it can intensify, although it then settles down. But I have never had any complaints about over policing, I always leave it set on 100% funding.
