ok well i downloaded the functional landmark mod and the files came out to look like this...

You are using a media player that has .dat files associated with it.  Nothing needs fixing -- SC4 will still use them just as it is supposed to.  If you don't want to see the "Video CD" label and icon, you will have to go into your media player's options, look for something like "files," "file types," "media types," or "file associations" and remove .dat files from the list.  If you were to double-click on a .dat file, your media player would try to open and play it as long as .dat files are associated with it.  A different method of doing the same thing would be to open any window in explorer (such as My Documents, for example), click Tools --> Folder Options, click the File Types tab, scroll down to .dat file, select it, click the Advanced button, and remove all the actions associated with it, as well as the icon, if you wish.  Click OK, then OK again, open a folder that contains .dat files and see if that did the trick.

My .dat files were formerly associated with ZoomPlayer.  After removing the file association within ZoomPlayer, they displayed the ugly default file icon, so I had to use the above method to change it to something else.  Same for lots, models, and descriptors.  That makes them easy to distinguish when opening them in the reader or trying to organize your plugins.
