That's some serious highway you have there. I am curious to see how it all works out once you get started. Nice job on a well designed infrastructure.

I want to see traffic volume maps when this gets built: will the SIMS use the freeway or pick some little side street and sit in traffic....

Very well planned traffic system. Some traffic maps would be great.

So, when are you going to get Rush Hour? Will it cost in your area, $47,000,000,0? If it is, myabe for Christmas either this year, 2009 or 2010?

P.S. My SC4 is Deluxe with lots of downloads from the STEX and some from the LEX.

I love your use of the graph images Boycey08. It gives us a clearer idea of how things are developing. Am very curious to see how the traffic flows as you grow the cities.

CHEERz,

Hello again, I apologise for my first update being so small, I guess I was too eager to post the update that I didn't really include much whatsoever, so I hope this update is a lot more interesting

    siso43, thankyou for the compliment

barryborder22, ill get an expansion pack when I can, although I am in no rush

frndofyaweh, thankyou, I really wasnt sure if I had gone overboard with the graphs but am glad to see I havent

JJC12321, thankyou and I also agree with you, the air pollution is eventually going to become out of control, but as you'll see in my images to come I've allowed plenty of space for future parks 2.gif also I dont have a STEX CD and am unable to find anything worthwhile to download for vanilla

    Update 2: 30/9/08

Another year has passed in Highway Heaven and there has been a few changes in and around the city, for starters, the population has grown from the 14,773 sims at the end of year 1, to 31,317 sims. This has led to the city becoming home to Radio Heaven! A new radio station dedicated to bringing sims up to the minute news headlines, traffic updates (not that they listen during this segment of broadcasting) and just random news that sims find interesting

    RadioHH.jpg

As you can see, there are a host of sims gathering in the street to celebrate the arrival of the station

As well as this, I have granted planning permission for the Highway Heaven national football team to build their own stadium, so now the city can host games which will hopefully provide a boost to the economy

    HighwayHeavenFootballStad.jpg

The stadium is situated in the upper right segment of the Commercial areas beside the central cloverleaf of my highway

Now I said there had been changes in and around the city, with the change around the city being the birth of a new neighbouring town, which shall be known as Industrial-Dream (I really suck at naming cities, any help is welcome), the birth of this city was rather sudden and very random, as it was created as I saw it in my head during a strange moment)

    IndDream.jpg

Very weird looking, but also rather unique and different, this city will host preferably only $$ industry, but depending on the demand levels, I may also allow $ industry to live here, this city will employ seaports as well as rail which connects to Highway Heaven

I layed half my grid in this city already, but have not zoned anything so there is nothing really to report on this city

    IndDreamSeaport.jpg

The rail you see may or may not remain where it is currently placed, will depend on what pops into my head during the development phase of the city

Now even though Highway Heaven is still a very small city (population wise) the traffic is already starting to build up in a few places, not the kind of traffic jams I want to see (yes I do actually want to see jams, but I want to see them on my highway)

Here is a rather popular offramp at one point in the highway system

    HHOffRampStandStill.jpg

Here is a bit more traffic gathering on my roads, you can also see a small segment of the citywide rail system (which will be shown during a later update)

    HHTrafficStandStill.jpg

Suprisingly, here is quite a bit of traffic in a largely undeveloped part of town

    HighwayHeavenTraffic.jpg

I just thought I'd show my Small International Airport, it is nothing special, but theres no harm in including it

    HHSmallIntAirport.jpg

This image is showing an area which currently homes a fair amount of $$ Residents, as well as quite a few $ Residents

    HHMidWealth.jpg

Here is what happened when I felt a bit wreckless (but I didn't click Save 3.gif)

    HighwayHeavenWhatIF.jpg

Now, lets take a look at how things have been progressing over the last year in Highway Heaven

    HighwayHeavenGraph2.jpg

Education has barely changed, with only a slight move north, while crime has steadily been rising

The real shock is the heavy increase in commute times, this has suprised me, but I will not let it bother me so soon in to the life of this city, especially when there are currently 0 developed jobs available in the city (so that excludes hospitals, schools, police etc etc)

    HighwayHeavenDViews2.jpg

Here you can see that not much has really changed with the land value of my city, apart from the airport area becoming unvaluable, although I have tried to offset this with my excessive use of parks (as seen in the Airport image)

Traffic density is still fine, with only a slight bit of congestion, you can see this in the bottom right hand corner (beside where the airport is)

As for the RCI demand view, I haven't made any further developments in the land known as Industrial Disease, that will come in the next update

The last set of graphs I want to show you are the population graphs for each wealth level, $, $$ and $$$

    HighwayHeavenJobsnPop.jpg

As you can see there are very few $$$ residents and almost 50% of these individuals live in the same house, which I think is safe to class as the largest building in Highway Heaven

    HHVernManor1.jpg

Well that is it for now, I've been sorting this update for roughly the last 90 minutes and am pretty tired now so I'm going to sleep, I hope you like the update and I'll be sure to make the next update interesting

Thankyou for reading and as always, feel free to give suggestions, criticisms or just any comment you feel like giving

    SUPER update!

Suggestion: When zoning any zone types, Hold down the Ctrl button, while you click and drag out the zones, with your mouse. You can then make them 3x3 or 4x2, etc., instead of all being 1x3's

Check out StarDarcy's tutorial on industrial zoning techniques here

I wasn't going to reply just yet but I had to ask, does that thread apply only to rush hour/deluxe, because I have tried holding ctrl while zoning but it doesn't seem to have any effect but thankyou for posting that link anyway, it has given me a couple of ideas

    And thankyou for your comment/suggestions

well I know i promised an update days ago but I've been really busy so I apologise for not updating this, but this update should hopefully make up for it

    Update 3: 6/10/08

Well it is the year 2005 in Highway Heaven and exactly 3 years have passed since the last update was posted and as expected, quite a lot has been happening

First things first, I spent about an hour making some what I would call very important changes, namely I have removed every single road that was connecting the residential zones to the commercial zones, which means sims have no choice but to travel by A) train or B) highway to reach the commercial sectors

I also demolished all through on-ramps and replaced them with side on-ramps, placed further apart and with less of them, which means my highways are finally being used and so are my trains (not all stations as of yet, but 3/4 of the city is still undeveloped/unzoned)

Here you can see sims using the cloverleaf section of the highway during the day and during the night (they are not the same cloverleafs)

    HighwayHeavenHighwayUsage.jpg

    HighwayHeavenHighwayUsage2.jpg

Traffic on the roads has also increased quite a lot, some of these upcoming shots are of the same area, just at different times to show you how congested they get

    Can you say bus?

    HighwayHeavenTraffic2.jpg

    HighwayHeavenTraffic3.jpg

Industrial Disease is providing a large majority of the industrial jobs available in the region and has since been upgraded from Medium to High Density industrial (HT Industry taxes here have been set at 20% as I've already told you it is destined for Highway Heaven)

    IndustrialDisease1.jpg

Incase you were wondering, the majority of sims travel around this city on buses, as you can see by the large amount of bus traffic I have (this screenshot was taken about 5 minutes before I upgraded the city to High Density)

    IndDiseaseBuses.jpg

Industrial Dream has also got its feet off the ground and is home to mostly Manufacturers, but there are also some Dirty jobs available as the demand is currently off the scale

    IndDream1.jpg

And here you can see just how many jobs are available in each of these cities

    Industrial Disease

    IndDiseaseJobs.jpg

    Industrial Dream

    IndDreamJobs.jpg

You may also be happy to know that Highway Heaven is now home to a brand new baseball stadium, which is situated in the commercial sector below the football stadium (as of yet this area has not development and so the stadiums are currently unpowered (for now))

    HighwayHeavenStadiums.jpg

Well you may be wondering 'Is this guy ever gonna shut up and let us see his developments?' Well I am now going to shut up and let you see my developments in my residential and commercial areas (some shots you may see multiple times, this is because there are day/night shots in some places)

Before I proceed, I apologise for the poor pasting on my part when I pasted some of the screenshots into paint, I only realised my error while uploading them to photobucket, but I hope this doesn't spoil your viewing

    Residential Views

    HighwayHeavenResidentialView.jpg

    HighwayHeavenResidentialView2.jpg

    HighwayHeavenResidentialView3.jpg

    HighwayHeavenResidentialView4.jpg

    HighwayHeavenResidentialView5.jpg

This is the first time I've ever seen this building, it is also homes more residents than any other building I've ever had developed (sure beats those Project Feelgood's)

    HighwayHeavenResidentialView6.jpg

    HighwayHeavenResidentialView7.jpg

    HighwayHeavenResidentialView9.jpg

    HighwayHeavenResidentialView10.jpg

    HighwayHeavenResidentialView11.jpg

    HighwayHeavenResidentialView12.jpg

    HighwayHeavenResidentialView13.jpg

Before I show you the commercial developments so far, there has been a shocking incident in Highway Heaven, it appears that somebody was murdered, just yards from a local High School (lazy cops)

    HighwayHeavenCrimeScene.jpg

    Commercial Views

    HighwayHeavenCommercialView11.jpg

My bus stops are being regularly used so I thought I'd show you a few shots of the bus usage in the city (if I remember correctly I placed a small black X beside the bus stops in question)

    HighwayHeavenBusUsage1.jpg

    HighwayHeavenBusUsage2.jpg

    HighwayHeavenBusUsage3.jpg

    HighwayHeavenBusUsage4.jpg

Now I mentioned that I've finally seen trains, so I took a host of pictures showing them in action (I admit I went a little overboard with the train screenshots, but these are the first trains I've ever seen so you cant really hold that against me)

    HighwayHeavenTrain1.jpg

    HighwayHeavenTrain2.jpg

    HighwayHeavenTrain3.jpg

    HighwayHeavenTrain4.jpg

    HighwayHeavenTrain5.jpg

I thought I'd show you the usage of one of my more popular stations (the station on the left)

    HighwayHeavenTrain6.jpg

    HighwayHeavenTrain7.jpg

I also followed the trains from the residential station to see where they went to and it was the heart of one of my commercial sectors

    HighwayHeavenTrain8.jpg

    HighwayHeavenTrain9.jpg

    HighwayHeavenTrain10.jpg

    HighwayHeavenTrain16.jpg

    HighwayHeavenTrain17.jpg

I hope you're not bored, because I'm not finished yet

As you're probably aware, I like to show graphs and data views of elements of my city and have not forgotten to include these during this update 4.gif

Here are the RCI demand meters after 5 years, the city's land value, the mayor rating and of course, the traffic density view

    HighwayHeavenDViews3.jpg

Note: the orange parts on the mayor rating image are all currently undeveloped pieces of zoned residential land

Up next are my collaboration of different graphs, all set to show you the details of the last 5 years (which are the first 5 years in this city's life)

    HighwayHeavenGraph3.jpg

    HighwayHeavenGraph4.jpg

Nearly finished now, congratulations if you've managed to get this far

I believe there are about 93,000 residents in Highway Heaven and here is the break down for them (I can't give an exact figure as I've not played the game for about 4 days)

    HighwayHeavenJobsnPop2.jpg

I also felt it was time to show you how much money this city is costing the tax payers each month and how much the taxpayers provide me with each month, I have also included their taxes, transport incomes and the newly updated ordinances list (I have finally chosen to use the Commuter Shuffle Service ordinance, lets see if it makes a difference)

    HighwayHeavenIncomenExpenses.jpg

Well, that is it for update 3, I hope I have kept you interested in my CJ (sorry for the lack of story, I'm not a good storyteller so have opted to giving you information rather than a story)

Please do not hesitate to post your comments, suggestions, complaints or any requests for something you'd like to see in a future update

    Thankyou for reading my CJ
