What am i doing wrong with region play

For example i raise a city about 70000 population that is doing fine. Some services, some mass transit and even beautification are in. My next goal is to move all dirty industry to neighbour city. I make connections - highway, rail, avenue and subway; i develop neighbour city with industry high density zoning. But with query tool i see only freight trucks going out of my industry city - no sims are going in or out. I even bulldozed all industry in my first city to force sims to travel to neighbour for jobs. But there was no effect.

What am i doing wrong?

*First city was on large map, second was on medium map

---

Please, sorry for my english.

don't know. I usually have a high way to each city as a means for high speed travel.

Try a traffic mod from here, so that it forces sims to move to places.

two things could be happening. one, your sims in the first city can find enough commercial and governmental jobs that they don't need to go to the neighbor city for work.

two, they haven't figured out there are jobs in the neighbor city yet. Eventually, one brave sim will try journeying there, find a job, and then a bunch of sims will follow.

You can help with the process by going into one city, query the routes, jump into the other city, query the routes, then jump back again. You may need to wait a few game years as well, so that the new city can start to catch up with the old one.

Basically, give it time, and they will come.

Try starving them a little to boost demand for what ever type of jobs you put into your next city. i once built a large city that was about 90% commercial jobs. the industry demand was through the roof. So when I established a medium sized industrial city and put a highway and passenger train connection, I could barely keep up with the traffic going into that city. It filled up quick!

Is it possible that simpy commute times are too long - from the center of a large map city to the center of a medium map city?

Monorail seems to be the king of intercity transport. Remember that the trains can't make 90 degree turns, so you'll have to make mini interchanges at  intersections. But they still take only a tiny fraction of the land hogged by a highway cloverleaf.

In any case, I've got two monorail lines and 8-10 subway lines running between my residential/industrial city and my commercial one. Additionally, there is a fair amount of car and bus traffic. They appear to be very well connected.

Edit: I started with simple road connections and then put in a monorail line. Once my residential/industrial city grew across the map, I put in the second monorail line. As density increased, I then put in roadtop bus and subway service. I also didn't mention the rail service I put in along with the monorail. However, the monorail was always much more popular. At this point, hardly anyone bothers with the rail line anymore so I'm about to rip it  out  since its the most land hungry of my systems.

It's very strange. Am i having different game version? Maybe i have to patch my SC4D?

It's very strange. Adding monorail in my two cities didn't made sims to travel fast through monorail, but it made them to use rail system really hard... Definitly there's something strange going on.

But thanks everyone, transportation system between two cities is somehow began to function.

And monorail seems to be not working at all. 2-4 sims per station and no inter-city travellers. Is it because only reach sims prefer monorails? I demolished all other inter-city connections leaving only two monorail lines and even then they were comletely empty.

I am using SC4D with NAM. At some point, I switched to the new NAM simulators. Supposedly lower class sims like rail while upper class like monorail, and my EQ is around 175 The rail emptied out when I introduced bus/subway service, suggesting that one or the other (probably bus) is the best way of moving poor sims.

You probably only need simple road connections when you at the poor dirty industry phase. Then start up monorail when you get wealthier sims. Then roadtop subway/bus stations come when the city starts crowding and you need to relieve congestion on the monorails.

The sims are picky and can't make up their mind sometime. I had trouble stopping the sims in my main city from clogging up the road when there are subway stations in front of every residental and commercial buildings. I noticed that the high wealth dislike using the mass traint the most. To fix the problem, I bulldozed all the road connections between the residental area and the commercial area. That finally got most of sims to use the subway. However, a few of the sims perfer to use the bus and some few sims still travel by cars.

With the prepackaged traffic simulator, the sims prefer cars and you absolutely can't get wealthy sims on mass transit. In that case, highways are pretty much your only option. You really need the NAM to get mass transit to work .
