SimCity 4 CTD

While playing I randomly crash to desktop. Sometimes it's minutes, sometimes hours. I have one map that immediately on load, crashes to desktop. 

I have Simcity 4 Deluxe/Rush Hour

I am running no plugins, nor have I ever run any plugins.

Updated Video Drivers

My VM is set 4096

Updated Windows (XP Pro SP2)

Have plenty of drivespace/memory.

Is it happening mostly during zooming? I've found that higher-end graphics cards tend to draw things so fast that SC crashes because it can't keep up.

I've had it happen during scrolling, and the one map crashes on load.   I played a different tile for about 5 hours without a crash. I really think it's just a badly written game.
