So pretty much 90% of us think this game will be a load of ....

So maybe EA will pull their fingers out and make an expansion which adds everything back! zoning, transportation!

It makes sence in a way! When the SIMS 2 came out so many people complained saying it was the worst sims game etc, just because of no pets, no cars, etc.

But EA just saved it for an expansion! Obviously thats how they make more money out of us, but we got it all in the end, weather, pets, cars etc. And the Sims 2 is a fantastic game now!

So maybe sometime next year we will get something like Simcity Societies: Transportation expansion pack or Zoning pack or God mode! Who knows, its not to late for EA to rescue this game!

An EA exec said certain features are being considered for an expansion pack, but only mentioned regional play.

Expansions of SCS will likely not bring back our beloved features... they'll be more like Sims expansions... add some buildings, a few new social classes, and maybe expand on one area like police and fire or utilities or something else, possibly.

But... if SC4 only had one EP, SCS might only have one EP... don't count on more just yet.

its true, but lets hope if we make enough fuss they will make an expansion which will add things we want, this game could be the best simcity game ever if it contained the right content. I think an expansion is inevitable. it will happen and more then likley 2. Most games these days do it. its how they make money, release an unfinished game and then release expansions to complete it. nice easy cash. fingers crossed aye!! We should wait till next week before we can judge this game for real! 4.gif

I don't remember SC3000 ever having an expansion, and I still think its as good as SC4. So if EA has a rabbit in the hat, they better release it because I am leaning toward CU.

Hey, Rush Hour added el trains, monorails etc, maybe we'll get that in the future... They better or else I'll threaten them 3.gif I personally don't really *need* zoning, I kinda like the ploppish idea, but I do want terraforming in God mode. 9.gif That's one of my favorites that that darn EA left out of SCS.

I can see an expansion, but an expansion to make it more SC4-like? Don't hold your breathe

You can pick SimCity 5, aka SimCity Societies up in a few days. If you're waiting for a so called "true SimCity", you'll be waiting for SimCity 6. 21.gif

I can see there being a whole truckload of expansions coming from this game. It was probably designed to be like that.. see: The Sims for a comparison. 3.gif

Yup, each expansion will probably have 1 or 2 new societies - this game seems geared toward that. I've been wondering what it would be like to have a medieval society, pre-WWII german society, french society, harry potter society, scientific (or ultra-futuristic) society, holiday specific (Halloween, Christmas, etc...) societies, etc... the possibilities are pretty much endless. Lots of $$$ making possibilities!

I was being a bit sarcastic but the sarcasm probably didn't come through clearly.  I was basically trying to say: let's bypass SCS and move on to the real SC5 -- call it an expansion or a stand alone, whatever.

An expansion will not turn this game into a true sequel to SC4. In order to do that, the expansion would have to change the basic premise of the original game, and expansions simply don't do that. This game is about building societies and any expansion that is released will merely augment that premise, not veer away from it. Anyone expecting something other than that is going to be very disappointed.

I think that "Olympic Games" expansion can be very good. They can add transport options because transportation and traffic is very important at olympics. We try to have olympics in our city and we do everything in dependencies list then after election we win and we start to olympics in our city..........

You first have to sell enough to make an expansion possible. As it stands I'm not sure that the numbers for Societies will hold up.

You make a fair point, but there is a key difference:

In the Sims 2, things such as pets or cars are all very nice and require a few unique mechanics but they aren't the core essentials of the game. The game functions without them. Stripped to the bare bones yes, but functional nonetheless.

SC is different. What they've done is taken out the CORE features of what was SimCity and thrown them aside and introduced a whole new core feature. Adding back CORE features that should have been in the game in the first place in expansion packs is absurd, especially as the two systems could conflict somewhat. And if the game does flop, EA wouldn't make an expansion anyway, as they wouldn't waste their resources on it if it doesn't make money.

Expansion packs are for new features, not for replacing them.
