Disappearing signs/labels

Is there any way to prevent street names/labels/signs from disappearing when you modify nearby streets?

Ugh! I hate when they do that! I don't know of a solution my self other than dragging the label off the road (stick it off in the dirt somewhere) then edit the road and drag the label back. I'm pretty sure theres no way to prevent them from vanishing, but if anyone knows I'd like to hear it?
