From the City Journal "Reinvented: Timbuktu"

Intro Hello, I'm Zaydan. I'm 17, which obviously still in (senior) high school. From age 13 (2017), I started to learn SimCity 4. I think SimCity 4 is the greatest city sim ever made in terms of simulation and second only to Cities: Skylines overall, but still a great game nevertheless. Today, I'm consider myself to be a moderate player. To be clear, moderate here means I'm not as reliant on basic help as I did 3-4 years ago. Still, I need some help for more advanced stuff, especially flora and deep breath of NAM. I want to be an advanced player in age 20 (2024). I mean, in that age, being an actual SimCity 4 pro, meaning I'm able to do almost everything myself, is something that few people can accomplish, as far as I know. Age 21/22, I will present myself on the top of the city journaling in the community, which again, it's not that common for my age, again as far as I know. That's why I need your feedback to develop my skill. I think, getting feedback is the way to be perfect, instead of being perfectionist. Because the latter often induces hassle to myself, which isn't ideal. Introducing to my Reinvented series. I'll transform Maxis regions into a prosperous and advanced regions. There will be 4 regions that will be transformed: Timbuktu, Fairview, San Francisco, and New York. I intentionally left behind Berlin and London because they have prebuilt cities and undeveloped version of them aren't readily available. Why're you choosing Maxis regions instead of custom ones? Because Maxis ones are readily available in my computer, unlike custom regions which I don't have any except in the past, @CorinaMarie's commute loop region. I know, Maxis regions have bad terrain to work with. But, it doesn't stop me doing that. After all, I'm using Ennedi slope mod so slope should be smooth enough, most of the time. Yes, it's not perfectly flat but I'm okay with that. Again, my goal is to work with readily available regions in my computer. What's makes this CJ special? Well, I'm using this series of CJs to gain feedbacks from all of you. So, I follow the path of @Raymond7cn and @Daeris. But instead of being on forum, this is on CJ section of Simtropolis because I'm also using this series of CJs to well, document my cities. I want to make this series of CJs to be active so I can take and give feedbacks to all of you. Make sure to follow this series and give comments if you wish to support myself develop my skills. That brings me to this: Reinvented: Timbuktu. This is based on Cori's Timbuktu Too region, basically the clean version of the game Timbuktu. Why Timbuktu? Because it's the first city you saw when after you've installed the game. It's also the tutorial city of the game. Another reason is I personally love the region's terrain. The terrain has an enough flat area to be worked into a prosperous and developed cities yet has series of mountain throughout the region to add variety to the terrain. As you can see, I personally developed the region since January 1st of this year. So, you might consider this as this year's resolution though I don't think so. SimCity 4 is so ingrained to my brain that the work on this region isn't just a resolution, but also thing should I do as a player. Let's begin our journey by discussing the jurisdictions (aka the cities). Jurisdictions The border since then has been changed. Check out the revised border for the currently valid info. There are 6 cities consists from 4 mayor-ruled cities and 2 monarchies. Aside from The Origin, the other cities are unoccupied for now. They'll be occupied in the future. Let's discuss them one by one. The Origin Zoom in to look at the districts closer. Download the original quality map. The Origin is the first city in the Timbuktu region. The story starts when a sailor, Patrick the Navigator, first found the territory. The territory was surprisingly empty, so they didn't have to negotiate with the citizens first. Then, another ship carrying the materials and the men needed to build the ferry terminal arrived at the harbor of The Origin currently part of The Marina . They built the terminal we know today. They build 2 residential complexes: North Point Zero and South Point Zero along with 2 industrial zones currently demolished and replaced by Waterville and The Marina. After the industrial complexes was built, another port was built to facilitate the trade between the region and other countries. Due to the growth of the middle class, the industrial zones were torn down with 2 complexes we know today, zoning commercials by the avenues, and the port was replaced by 2 marina and a helipad. There's now also a trash complex called the Southern Tip along with the Grand Bridge connecting the Southern Tip and South Industria. Where were 2 industrial complexes gone?  Well, they moved to an island called Industria at the time. It's called South Industria nowadays. We'll discuss the North later. The island hosted a huge complex of blocks of dirty industries, which at the time is the primary source of goods. To facilitate the move of the goods, the Grand Bridge was constructed. The original plan was to connect to the southwest of the island. But due to engineering issues, the bridge was diverted to the northwest of South Industria. The growth of the middle class in the region forced the industrialists to convert their factories into manufacturing and later high-tech factories. South Industria also the home of a hydrogen power plant. The power plant complex was full of coal plants. Because of the pollution and the need to rezone the blocks into clean industry, the power plant was shut down and replaced by the current plant. Speaking of ports, there are 2 ports: Prof Smart Port, named after the engineer who design the complex, in the southwest and Defacto Port, the first and the current mayor in the northeast. There's also the bridge to North Industria. Trash that "cached" in the Southern Tip goes to a garbage center in the southwest. The expansion wasn't cooling down. The Origin residents were expanding to the north, forming a district called Rock by Water. But back then, the district was cut in half, leaving only the east side. There was also a low-end residence in an island now called Premium Island. The district is demolished and will be replaced by a high-end residential complex. The district of Rock by Water is now pouring into the western side. The growth of Rock by Water is fueling the creation of 4 new districts: North Plains, South Plains, Slenderville, and High Hills. North Plains, South Plains, and Slenderville are mid-end residential complexes, while High Hills is a new development of high-end houses. Speaking of High Hills, it's also contains the second water plant. A water plant in this context means water towers and/or pumps and filters. The first water plant is located in Waterville just aside from the water. High Hills is also home to Defacto, the mayor of the city. Yes, Defacto means myself. Around the T-junction of Slenderville and South Plains, 2 complexes was built: Exponentia and The L. There's an interesting fact. Due to the lack of the traffic flowing to the districts (thanks SC4!), commercial can't grow and the complexes were in an abandonment crisis. The abandonment caused the disrepair of houses and even a large economic regression, instead of progression. The abandonment has since been fixed but the disrepair houses are still there to house R$. The economy in the districts has been growing since then. Two new districts was built further from Exponentia and The L: Teeville and Triangular District. Both districts are named after the shape. Exponentia and The L (and also to some extend, Slenderville) is also named by that convention. Note that Teeville, despite the name, isn't related to districts made by Biffa. It's just an coincidence. This is the pride of the city: Defacto Municipal Airport. It's a district on its own because it has a different governance than let say High Hills' water plant and South Industria's garbage center. The airport has 2 small-sized terminals with 4 runways and spaces for more than 8 private jet and more than 8 commuter jet. To control the flow of 4 runways, 2 ATCs have been placed. There's also a bridges that goes to Flatish Island which goes Stoney Island which goes to, a cul-de-sac. Yes, no real function of the set of bridges and islands. Speaking of North Industria, it was constructed after the northern and northeast expansions. This was and is still the home of high-tech industries. This is the first high-tech only complex. There's also a ferry terminal which doesn't function other than to initiate the ferry routes within the city (again, thanks SC4!). The other cities here aren't exist anymore. Check out the revised border for the currently valid info. These cities are there simply for archival purpose. South City South city is a city founded by Prof Smart. He wants to have his territory on his own. Despite of the ownership, this city is a mayor-ruled and the mayor can be replaced in the future. South City will be the complement of The Origin. But it'll one day challenges The Origin power. Riverville Riverville is an attempt to bring the customers to The Origin. Riverville is initiated by Defacto, but the leadership will be done by Patrick the Navigator. Yes, the same person who founded The Origin.  This is a mayor-ruled city. It's one of the largest cities in the region. The Top The Top is built atop of hilly terrain. Not too hilly to be considered a mountain but not too flat to be considered plains. The Top will be ruled by Thomson Smith, an industrialist who owns 8 factories within The Origin. Smith will be the mayor of the city. The last 2 cities are monarchies. So not only democratically regularly elected mayors who can rule cities in this region, but also kings and queens. Highlands Highlands is a city of mountains. Highlands will be ruled by Queen Cecilia, a daughter of a king far away. Rockmount Rockmount is a city located near the island of South Industria. Rockmount will be ruled by King Tyler. Unlike Cecilia, he claims to be the king instead of being born from a royal family abroad. What do you think about this fresh start. Do you have any suggestions? If you do, let me know in the comments. As always, thanks for reading!
