Tired of tracking down dependencies? Let me introduce - sc4pac, a package manager/mod manager for SC4 plugins: sc4pac website: https://memo33.github.io/sc4pac/ What is sc4pac? What is a package manager anyway? Package managers are programs that automate the process of installing software (see Wikipedia). You simply select a package to install. No need to worry about dependencies – they will be installed for you. Concretely, the main tasks sc4pac handles are: downloading and installation of plugin files managing dependencies (These are installed automatically for you.) ensuring correct load order ensuring compatibility between choices (Do you use a DarkNite mod? Great. DarkNite BATs will be chosen automatically where available.) updating installed plugins when newer versions become available reproducibility of your plugins folder (This also makes it possible to share your plugins folder, in the form of a configuration file.) verifying file integrity to prevent malicious tampering Download: The sc4pac GUI is available for download on the STEX:   Originally, sc4pac came just with a command-line interface. Here's how it looks like in action:
How does it work? Sc4pac gets its information from curated metadata stored at https://github.com/memo33/sc4pac and then downloads the actual files off of Simtropolis or SC4E. Feel free to send a PR adding more package metadata.
Who is this for? Anyone starting to build a new plugins folder from scratch and who does not know where to start. Anyone wishing to have a more organized plugins folder. Anyone overwhelmed by the amount of available plugins and the complexity of managing dependencies by hand. If you already have a large and tidy and heavily-customized plugins folder, sc4pac may be of limited use to you.
What can be installed so far? There is a selection of package highlights. This list will grow in the future, as more packages are added. It's a manual process that takes some time. In total, there are more than 200 550 3000 packages already. Personally, I mostly aim for plugins that seamlessly integrate with the original game aesthetics. I think this is an opportunity for us to collectively compile a base set of high-quality plugins suitable for many newcomers and returnees.
TL;DR: Check out sc4pac.
