Two Dutch farms from the north of the country. One from the province of Friesland, one from the province of Groningen.
These models are two generic recreations of the farm types. The Frisian one (second picture) is called a head-neck-torso type farm, dating from the 17th or 18th century. The reed roof is meant as isolation, keeping the animals warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The decorations at the top of roof of the barn are called owl-boards. There is a hole in its centre where an owl could nest. Owls were usefull to the farmer, hunting small pests like mice. The ground floor of the house is slightly elevated, probably to keep dry feet in case of a spring tide.
The one from Groningen (3rd picture) is slightly more modern, from the 19th century. It's called an Oldambt-farm, named after the area where they are from. Farming was a profitable business in those days. Both farms were status symbols aswell, showing-off the succes of the farmer. They are both still commonly found thoughout the provinces and most buildings have a monument status. Being outdated or too expensive to maintain for modern farming use, quite a few have been turned into large homes.
The buildings function in-game as regular farms, growing randomly on I-a. It has nightlights, it's up to you to choose either the default Maxis version, or the Dark night one. Rendering is in HD.
