Every town needs a power source, and this model (a remodelled and reworked version of the power plant from my Slaytfork Mill BAT) serves the purpose adequately. As a wood burner this plant produces just 2,500 MWh, and consequently doesn't pollute as much as a coal burning power plant. When the power plant has reached the end of it's life it won't explode, but it's still best to place it a little way away from your Sims! Power plants of this nature were common towards the end of the 19th century, and continue in use in remote areas to this day.
