    The original walls of Kairouan (in Tunisia) covered alot larger area than today's, and they were bigger also, before being destroyed and most of the city burned down in the aghlabic dynasty's last days. There's not much of city walls in the STEX, and I needed one, so, here it is. I will be making more pieces to it like bigger and better fortification pieces. You will all the pieces in the park menu.   4. 800 FDU: Counterresistance organized

    I've written this from the comfort of my provisional residence during our time in counteroffensive against the Hydrakoneians--at the Drakonfaucem Estate on the west side of Dragon's Head Island. The view is nice but the place suffers from vermin and disease festering on the swampy grounds. From this week's field visit to assess our preparations, paired with the scouting reports of third party accounts and our spies we have managed to compile a report of the situation of our next objectives. I'll be presenting it to the other members of the Council of the Republic and their team of advisors and ministers: THE SHIPYARD AND BASE OF OPERATIONS: Our shipyard has completed its fourth Aquamare ship, and we have gathered enough material to start work on two more. One of the new captains hired for their operation has brought us the concern that our shipyard may not be defended enough, especially not since our bay's fort has suffered major damage in the latest skirmish. The bay's defenses, at present, include the now damaged fort, a lighthouse aiding our scouting maneuvers and the narrow inlet to our harbor. Military engineers have proposed building two additonal forts: one on the opposite end of the bay's inlet and a third to secure the land supply line to the peninsula's fort. In addition they also propose adding a second layer of walls around the first fort in order to provide redundancy for the main military facility of our stronghold. Restoring our main fort is our current maximum priority SCOUTING REPORT FROM DRAKENSBERG: Our gathered information indicates mostly good news: the citizens are safe, the fields have limited damage and most monuments are safe and sound! Unfortunately not all monuments are in good shape. My official residence as Council Master of the Republic, the Palace of Winds, has been torn down and brought into ruins!! only the foundations and the sturdiest walls remain in place. Meanwhile they siphoned the city's resources into building a new palace for the military governor instituted by the Kingdom of Hydrakonei--spectacularly lavish waste of Drakenburguoise resources!!! The Drakensberg Port, or at least what's left of it, has been slowly armed since our defeat. They keep the three captured Aquamare ships, while also bringing reinforcements of their own fleet! What will be advantageous to our counterstrike is that the development of the city's commercial strip along the port has included infill of the riverbanks, this has reduced drastically the maneuvering space available for ships exiting the estuary. Maybe our counteroffensive will be successful enough... Providing great relief we have also found out the Drakensberg Cathedral remains safe and sound: no treasures, relics nor architectural features have suffered damage, replacement or destruction. The Town Square and the city hall also remain nicely in place. SCOUTING REPORT FROM TARAZED: Further investigation of the most recently captured cities paints a different scene in Tarazed--an important crossroads location between the continent and Dragon's Head Island. The city itself is very intact, save for the temple which has been replaced with that ugly looking Hydrakoneian shrine! They have also started fortifying the strait leading to Dragon's Head Island--currently a no man's land after the truce. What used to be a modest gatehouse to provide upkeep for the island's bridge and some of its forts now is a barrier to the free transit of commerce between us Drakenburguoise and the rest of the region. The town's forces also appear to be strengthening, albeit at a much slower pace. The town itself remains unfortified, and the harbor now provides safe berthing to two ships, with a third ship being identified on the move to this small harbor. All in all, the situation looks fairly easy to handle--its our extremely limited assortment of resources on the island that restricts a more devisive course of action. However, we have one nice opportunity to further develop Dragon's Head Island--its soft, flat expanses are very welcoming for agriculture, while its southern waters teem rich with sea creatures to feed our population.

  8. Fort Sherkston History Lesson

    Welcome to a Mini-Update of Holt District! Today we are investigating the following which was left at the end of update 8: "While a sea of cranes graces the Sherkston skyline, there are still symbols of the old times. The heritage of this building is a cultural symbol, and one of the most important site in the province. While skyscrapers appear around it, it remains largely the same." What exactly was that quote referring to? It was referring to the castle that sits just to the West of the Sherkston CBD. Fort Sherkston was constructed in the mid 1700's when settlers were arriving to what is now Sherkston. A prized area for its beauty and flat, easy to build-on land, the settlers moved inland away from the direct coast as a means of defending themselves from attackers. This specific castle/fort was constructed to house the area government and high-ranking government officials. While it was originally part of a larger fort, much of this fort was destroyed due to natural disasters and war. Surprisingly, this castle stood strong. It is not a symbol of where Holt District came from, and that if you restore it frequently enough, it will stand the test of time. Now, onto pictures! Fort Sherkston. Many call it a castle. It served as a government building for the former colony of Sherkston, where the current city got its name. It was in use as a government building until about the mid 1800s when a larger building was built in a territory north of the region. It was at that time the current province, Province of Orchidsen, was formed along with several others in surrounding areas. The first Orchidsen capital was not Sherkston, but rather a small city known as Italieu, about a 3 hour drive north of Sherkston. When the province relocated the capital to Sherkston at the start of the 20th century, this castle was declared a historic site. It was restored in the 1950's, and again in the early 2000s. ] This open space was the gathering place for those who resided in the former Sherkston colony. Official government announcements were often made to the public in this square. Those lucky enough to get a spot in the crowded courtyard we lucky enough to see the political figures, whom were highly regarded at that time - and seen as celebrities in the region. The "roundhouse" as the round section of this building is known housed the government leader and his/her family. They were treated like royalty, with servants doing everything from washing to cooking to entertaining. The position as leader of the colony was of course, a reputable one. Many envied the government family, seeking the lush and pampered lifestyle. That is why there was 24/7 security surrounding the entire fort... and it worked. There were no reports of attempted assassination's of government leaders in the colony's history. This tower, known as "Holt Tower" is a recent addition to this site. Historians have noted that the original location of this tower was actually where the lighthouse in Old Port now sits. It was used as a lookout tower during the 1700's. Historians estimate it was destroyed in the late-1700's when an attempt made by an opposing force to invade the region occured. The opposing force suceeded in destroying the tower, but not on their mission to gain control of the land. During the reconstruction of the Old Port lighthouse and surrounding residential development in the 1990's rubbel from the tower was discovered, and shipped to Sherkston where government officials decided to recreate Holt Tower by Fort Sherkston. Both old and new materials were used, and the restoration came in at a cost of approximately $5.6 million. Tours currently cost $3.95 per person, and will goes towards paying off restoration. Once restoration is paid off, tours will become free. And to end off this history lesson, contrast. While this castle/fort has remained relatively unchanged since the 1700s, the landscape around it hasn't stayed the same. The stark contrast of the new, ultra-modern condominiums and classic, stone castle/fort are proof of that. That is it for this mini-update!     Fuerta De Pego is a landmark add-on to the Puerta De Pego historic Coastal Fort. It can be plopped next to the fort or on either or both sides. It can also beplopped alone as an historic, small coastal battery. This "fuerta" (fort) is a landmark... similar in price and properties to the Alamo landmark. As the Puerta De Pego main fort is a museum, this add-on had to be something else. If you plop 2 or, God forbid, 3 museums next to each other, you get the School Bus Traffic Jam from Hell. So landmark was the obvious choice. Like the Puerta De Pego main fort, this add on coastal battery is technically a CDK 3 lot. However, it also does not requre the CDK3 to be installed and itcan be plopped on dry land. Both forts look quite good hanging over cliffs as hill top fortresses. ** This lot can also be plopped on dry land and used with the PEG Canals, Ponds and Streams. ** This lot requires the PEG-CDK3 Puerta De Pego lot to be installed.     The "fuerta" (fort) at Puerta (port) De Pego has long been renowned as one of the few surviving, classic examples of 16th-17th century coastal forts that were commonly built in the Mediterranean & New World. Built primarily to protect coastal cities from attack by sea, they were monolithic structures designed to withstand massive barrages from ship-born solid cannon shot while keeping marauding ships at bay with a vast arsenal of their own cannon. In time, many methods were developed by marauders and invading fleets to circumvent the forts and attack the protected cities. And with the development of exploding shot for cannons, the reign of the masonry coastal forts was doomed. Puerta De Pego is unique in that it has survived the ravages of time and assault almost fully intact. With a grant from the Pegadyne Corporation, the fort has been fully restored to its original magnificence and is one of the most popular local museums, landmarks and tourist attractions. This lot is a Museum comparable to a game-default museum in all properties and costs. It has an increased landmark value and also promotes your Mayoral rating. It is a CDK3 lot... designed to plopped on the coast over the water. However, it does not require installation of the CDK3 and can also be plopped on dry land, either flat or overhanging a cliff. ** This lot can also be plopped on dry land and used with the PEG Canals, Ponds and Streams. ** This lot requires the PEG OFMN Mod if you wish to display the flag of your choice.     Fort Pegasus is an Historic Landmark that calls to an older era when the land was young and settlers were trekking ever westward in search of a better life. Forts such as this, carved from the very elements of the frontier, provided sanctuary to settlers and often served as a center of commerce for the communities that sprung up around them. Due to its historic nature, exquisite preservation and daily guided tours, this landmark also serves as a museum with the appropriate scholastic EQ boost in the surrounding area. Its a popular locale for family holidays and educational field trips. To avoid educational capacity problems, the fort has been converted to a true museum lot... with jobs. It no longer is a landmark in the technical sense. The custom UI now shows the standard museum data and funding control.
