    Maxis is Hiring

Looks like Maxis/EA is looking to bring on some new talent. Among the job descriptions: Online Engineer, Sr. Development Director, Lead Engineer and Graphics Engineer. A sign that they might have a new game percolating...?

I'd seen this a couple of weeks ago, while wondering (and speculating) about any new SimCity. Looking at other hiring sites, it looks like they started hiring as early as April (Posted on 4/7/11 on GameGuzzler.com - for instance.) It made me wonder what a timetable would look like from the development of any game. Would they have already created much of the initial story-boarding (or whatever form of pre-production they use) or would that not start until after these guys are hired. In any case, this means we could be a couple of years away from any announcement. There's no telling at this point what they have up their sleeve. Could it be a wild hair idea like to explore a new area of "simulation sciences", like Spore, or could it be a new Sim City? We can bet that it's not likely for a Sims game, since that production seems to have been fairly continuous over the years. Descriptive words like, " an unannounced next-generation simulation game" and "upcoming triple-A simulation style game," sounds vague, yet promising.

Also, it looks like the game will involve cloud computing and "online social gaming models." This is a good thing for any game (and practically required for survival in the gaming world.) Certainly a new Sim City could fit the bill (but so could just about anything else). Thankfully, the science and understanding of what online gaming should look like has evolved rather nicely over the last 10 years. There have been plenty of failures and a few successes to learn from. So, good luck to Maxis! And from those of us who still hold on to the dream, here's hoping to a new Sim City!

I'm guessing a spore project, as, according to founder of SPT Drew980 on the sporum, maxiscactus posted that darkspore was to earn money for a new spore project.

As long as Maxis is under EA, or at least, what's left of it (I do not consider Maxis 2004 and beyond to be the same Maxis, they took their name off of The Sims years ago), there will never be a true sequel to SimCity 4. Period.

It was my understanding that Maxis was abandoned... Looks like there is new hope for Sim City after all. Although it is likely a few years away from announcement. Perhaps we need a man on the inside? Dirk? :P

I was talking about we need a new Sim City, I would love to be part of making the video game, I think it would be cool if EA can just come to Simtropolis and Sc4 Devotion to see what the batters and moders are going, and were do such a great job on keeping this game alive. I'm 100% sure we can help make Sim City much better. :D I am so happy to see Maxis still breathing. :D

If this is true, I know that there are SEVERAL Simtroplis users that need to be hired.

(Looks at Pegprod and that guy that makes automata cars and sother people I can't remember but are amazing.)

Possibly a repair project for Spore, but unlikely. They are probably going to drag the Maxis name around again with something new. I suspect they are using the name as an HR attractant.
