I went on a little downloading spree yesterday to catch up on SC4 buildings that I hadn't downloaded yet. I am yet to test-plop them in game and have a close-up look at them, but one thing that immediately caught my attention is that we have reached an incredible overall quality level! I mean, I technically know that the BATters have been pushing the envelope over all those years, not least thanks to better tools at their disposal. And with major contributors like Diego Del Llano, JP Schriefer and nofunk (among others), I shouldn't be surprised. And yet, I was still kinda blown away by the sheer amount of ridiculously good BATs! And that's without counting the high-end lots and prop/texture packs we have these days. The SC4 community never ceases to amaze me. I love it!

...Work In Progress... Started work on a medium-sized city located in Northern California known as Beacon Hills. The CBD will be moderately sized surrounded by suburban sprawl, and hilly slightly mountainous areas. In the first pic I present the southern mountains that offer not only hiking trails but also an escape from everyday city life...and in the second pic my work so far on downtown Beacon Hills as of now the CenturyLink Tower is the city's tallest building.

A little behind the times here, but I had a few spare hours so I upgraded to NAM 35 and with a little learning (and constant manual consultations), my railroad junctions are starting to look sweeeet. My head is spinning with all these new FAR options... and I like it! Way to go @NAM Team!

    Hartford Harbour !

Hartford harbour ! Mayon province CJ makes a little reboot this summer with the second largest city in Mayon Province, Hartford. Hartford from establishment was and is a important industrial gateway into the eastern part of Mayon province. Providence city maybe compared in industrial sence as a venue but the layout beside the Maroon river makes it a real port city. We start with the port area ! Hartford has three large harbours. Logical oldest harbour closest to the city ! Fìrst harbour is split into a modernized container part and a bulk goods dock ! Second dock is completly modernized container terminal ! Third harbour is mostly used by chemical shiping ! Future may see some extra container cranes beside this dock ! Last we have the LNG and Oil facilities Updated !!! Chemical area at the head of the third harbour ! Last we conclude with the supporting infrastructure ! Logistic enterprise ! Shunting Yard ! Large shunting and sorting facility, with a lifted hill ! Well that´s what I would like to share with you for this month ! Hope you enjoyed this CJ and see you back next time !

    Ronyx: NEW Daihatsu Hijet Released

Have been finishing my really big airport project using alot of your awesome props. One of the most central for one concept is the ploppable asphalt together with @Lost_Gecko's concrete walls. Unfortunately I ran into a problem with prop count One of the most numerous is the ploppable asphalt. Any chance for a bigger version?

    Citizen modding?

How do we import models to be used as citizens. I see the template but none of my models work. I imagine this could have a lot of potential, maybe we could have cities full of aliens, or very fast zombies. Or maybe lots of bloody penguins, roaming the streets. Although you have to have a mod that lets you select what citizens you want. Otherwise the penguins would be amongst normal citizens. I've already made a zombie prop. I like to know how to put him in my city? Also does anyone know if we have access to the vanilla main citizen models and not just the lods, so I can dump them?

    Ronyx: NEW Daihatsu Hijet Released

Cool. I'm not making a bigger version because of the culling issues - they disappear at certain angles, it already looks terrible at very specific angles with the current props, it would be even worse with bigger ones, as big chunks of asphalt would just disappear when looking around. Building don't have these culling issues but unfortunately the RoadBridge shader looks completely screwed up when it's a building. Filesize really is just bragging points at this point, it doesn't reflect the actual amount of memory usage because of the loading screen mod. I still like to keep file sizes small though. Yeah I recommend only using it for props you definitely won't move, like random stuff in backyards or decals in nature, so that the total user prop usage is reduced at least a bit. WIP Pools: Random idea... Flat looking thingy: AO rotors shader sub-building (pushed out 3cm): Combining both thingies: So you could not worry about AO in the main model and make that as efficient as possible with repetition and such... And then make a more optimized model for the AO, you could even add stains on it, shiny normal mapped stains even, and then add that as a sub building. The rotors shader layer could be very low poly and only in bigger flat areas, and the textures don't need to be big since it's less visible and would go on top of the main model/texture. Also I'm planning a ModTools for beginners video, what do you want to see in that?

That old Wal-Mart is so under-sized next to that Dicks when you consider IRL the Wal-Marts of that type (the 70s/80s era ones) would still have been bigger that most Dicks.

Thank you Jz i found Ronyx Video with the modding on the TWD Barn - that helped so much .. and also to see how you uv map & set textures. I always did no repetion - just took the whole model to paint on it So i rebuild my Trainshed and tried the "new way" of texturing - et voila: my asset takes just 3,3 MB A big thank you for helping me out !!

@Tyberius06 Yo, Tyberius -- Thanx VERY much for the feedback on the shoreline. This is my first attempt at simulating a really rocky beach and, frankly, I'm struggling with it. Being in uncertain territory, and keeping in mind that this is MASSIVELY labor intensive -- the positive comment encourages me to carry on and work a bit harder to get better at it. Thanx, again ! Yes -- those are "SimCoug's" transit enabled stairs -- for which I am indebted to him, since I have no skills at TE work. They work very well with the TE pedmalls. Besides which, they are nice stairs. The walls are my custom "fiddling". The base set is from "Mas71" and I simply went into Lot Editor and substituted a stock sandstone base texture with a fence prop from one of the "Debussyman" lots. I think it was one of his palatial mansion types -- the prop says something like "FraContra" -- ?? Check in your LOT EDITOR for fences and it will likely come up if you have a bunch of Debussyman's stuff. The buildings are a multiple arrangement of the "MS Jubiler" lots -- they seemed to be perfect as a shopping venue in a marina area.

Tell me what you think: I want to make a CJ to showcase my city as finished as possible, but at the same time, I want to be able to get community feedback for the designing and building process, so I was thinking on doing two successive CJs: the first one as a backstage, development-thread styled, to decide on the definitive works aimed at the next, story-based CJ when the city gets finished. Would you like to read and participate on such kind of city journal, or you would prefer to see the development stages on other formatte?

matias93: thank you very much! So I made a test with the steps of the stairs and I got 26,5m to the tower. When testing with the men on the front measuring 1,65m I got 25,5. So I decided the real thing is about 25m. Also, it's known the building's bricks were reddish, so this part is fine SimCoug: thank you! I think this station may look good in your CJ since it has a historic look I'll export the model in HD and SD. The modelling part is almost done now - I'm studying how the windows really looked - and I think this building is very fun to do. BTW there's also a little European station on the JP's infinite projects backstage

Ok, took me some time to finish this one off. :S Top of this thing was quite a pain in the ass to texture, but I think it came out quite nice. Especially like how the specular came out. I'm also considering doing an extended 3 story version, because frankly it's quite easy and with texturesharing it will cost minimal memoryspace. Took a few artistic liberties but overall it came out quite true to the original. https://sketchfab.com/models/a3e2f09fd726470da60487aa359d79fa

I have been asked a few times to supply this model in the past. I finally found the motivation to dig it out of my plugins folder. THIS DOES NOT COME WITH A LOT! .sc4model only! This is the model only. I have neither the game nor any of the modding tools installed at this point so you will have to do the modding and make the lot yourself. Sorry! The images show what I cooked up... 8 years ago?!? Jeez, I can't believe it has been so long. I have a full time job and another hobby that eats most of my free time, but I miss all of you that made SC4 fun for as long as I was active. This is the CJ entry where it was used:

Hey guys, I've been experimenting with creating an area of reclaimed land and underground canals on the riverside of the city (Based on the 'Dark Arches' under Leeds Station). It's only in the early stages but I've found that Armesto's Roman Bridge makes a pretty good 'entrance' for the water. I'm still messing about with the quays for the shape of the rivers (and have a few ideas that I want to explore further with this) but I'd be happy to see what people think.
