Happy New Year from Trujillo!  It's the year 2000 and the region is excited for the future.  Founded as a Spanish colony in Central America around 1650, the cities of Trujillo and Cudad Orilla struggled to survive.  By 1800, the region's population was first recorded at 7,614, and by 1850 the population swelled to over 185,000.  A great fire destroyed many parts of the cities' wooden structures, leading the city to rebuild entire neighborhoods with brick townhouses.  As the fires we're extinguished and the city rebuilt, population reached neatly 1,000,000 by 1900.  Throughout the next decades the region grew quickly and steadily with 20%-30% by decade growth, leading to it's current population of 8,389,044.
