Le royaume de Rhone-Savoie (the Kingdom of Rhone-Savoie) is a constitutional monarchy located in south-central Europe. Rhone-Savoie, renowned for its aristocratic diplomatic and intelligence corps, is a permanent member of the UN Security Council, and is a preeminent continental military power. Europe's second largest economy, Savoyard industry is based chiefly on the aerospace, naval architecture, automotive, and, in recent years, biotechnology industries. Fiercely proud of its financial independence, Rhone-Savoie has largely been skeptical about the Euro and stubbornly maintains its currency, the Rhon Savoyard (RSR), and jealously guards its triple A sovereign credit.

Rhone-Savoie borders France to the west, Germany to the north, Austria, Croatia and Hungary to the west and Italy to the south. Renowned for its natural beauty, the Kingdom straddles the snow-capped Alps, the Valois highlands, the Bologna plains, and the Mediterranean coast. Its capital Astrid, located on the shores of Lake Chamonix, is an Alpine metropolis with a population of ten million inhabitants, the largest capital in Europe in terms of population. An ethically diverse city, Astrid is regarded as the exemplar of an international alpha-class city and is, after Paris, the second most popular tourist destination in Europe. Elizabethville, Genes, and Venise, three major ports on the Mediterranean, serve as the industrial powerhouses of the country. Verona and Milan are important agriculture and transit hubs, and Geneve, Zurich, Bern, Basel, and Vaduz are large regional cities.

Although a member of the European Union, Rhone-Savoie has opted the cross-border Schengen regime given that it has one of the most stringent immigration policies in the world. Nevertheless, Rhone-Savoie maintains cordial relations with most countries but has seen relations deteriorate with Russia and Iran over the past few years. Particularly cordial are relations with former colonial states in Africa, the Middle East and South East Asia. The colonial cities of Conakry in Guinea and Haikou in Inochine Savoyard are regarded as the finest cities in the tropics.

French is the official language of Rhone-Savoie's fifty-eight million inhabitants. However, following recent efforts at devolution, heritage languages such as German, Italian, Langue d'oueil, and Romasch have been promoted in their respective regional enclaves. Moreover, in major cities such as Astrid and Elizabethville, colonial legacy languages such as Lingala, Kinyarwanda, Arabic and Cantonese are spoken widely. English is spoken sparsely and many foreign visitors complain about the lack of English signs or English speaking local residents.

The House of Etienne has ruled the Kingdom continuously since its foundation in 1306, making the Etienne Dynasty the longest reigning monarchy in the world, and one of the longest in history. S.M.R. Valentin VI (born 1942), the reigning monarch, has ruled since his coronation in 1967. H.E. Catherine Deneuve GC.LdH of the Socialist Party is the incumbent Prime Minister having narrowly escaped a vote of no-confidence last March. A coalition between the conservative, HND, led by Jean de Villancourt and the center-right opposition, RMP, led by its young leader Wilhem Saroux-Cobert et Gotha* is expected to defeat Prime Minister Deneuve and Foreign Minister Felix Houphouet in the forthcoming national elections.
