Stampede Valley was the workings of a major developer. The developer sent out brochures to city dwellers claiming that the country was calling their name. The brochures used phrases like “Let the cowboy inside you come out”, “Lands a bargain in stampede valley”, and “Don't miss your opportunity to live in Stampede Valley. Only a few lots left ... beautiful mountains and spacious lots to roam the wild”. The front cover of the brochure showed the city center with the large railroad station.
The advertising worked as hordes of city folk came out to claim a piece of wilderness.
In the end many of the original buyers were found to be unfit for country life. So the logging industry stepped in and offered to buy the lots from the gullible and midlife crisis city dwellers.
