Washburn

Washburn is a city in Bayfield County.
Trivia:
Initially, the city's economy was based on lumbering, with sawmills lining the busy waterfront. It was also a popular summer resort,
being especially well known for its boating and fishing. In 1905, the DuPont company opened an explosives plant just outside town,
providing an important source of employment as timber resources were growing scarce. The closing of the DuPont plant in 1971 was a
severe blow to the local economy.
Webster

Webster is a village in Burnett County

The village was called Clam River until 1896, when a new post office was established and resident J.D. Rice petitioned U.S. Rep. John
J. Jenkins to change the name to Webster, after lexicographer Noah Webster.
Winter

Winter is a village in Sawyer County.
Trivia:
Winter was founded in 1904. It was named for W. C. Winter, a railroad official. A post office has been in operation in Winter since
1904.
