It has been 60 years now since the foundation of the Kingdom of Shelder. A very young brave new world, in a land of great dangers and hardship. Nevertheless, Mother Nature has been kind and gentle and has blessed the redskinned people with a lush climate and fertile grounds.
Our founders arrived by sea, into the Sheldo Bay, and settled by the shore, at the river Everon estuary, where they started farming, and constructed a fortress up Fanos Hill, which they called Linolo...
...making use of a quarry down the cliff overlooking the bay straight of Varig:
This quarry was vital to the supply of stone for the construction of the defence wall from Vrona Bay to Also Hill.
This long stretch of fortification is what enabled the establishment of Cronio Manor and it's farming village, fundamental to Linolo economic success.
Strip farming and terraces in Cronio:
Now being almost food independant, Linolo can start specializing in trading. Expansion of the port (which was only a single fishing pontoon at the beginning) has already started, as carracks race back and forth hugging the entire eastern coast. Some of them even venture westbound.
There currently aren't any docks for the larger vessels, as the pontoons are restricted to local fisherboats. The local entrepeneurs have pushed ideas for the docks to be expanded further, maybe to the west, where there is currently a pine forest hugging the beach. Oh, the tradesmen would love to see the big sails load and unload right on the doorstep, won't they... They will have to wait. The demand just isn't high enough to justify such an endavour, especially considering the logging expedition to the west valley this project would require.
What's in the west?
Locals tell plenty of legends to the unwary. Those who travelled will be able to tell the difference between truth and bogus. Or will they?
They tell children of enormous tyrant beasts and dragons. The elders will often warn you to stay away from the outback - you will die from disease. Clerics preach of the power of Mother Nature over man, and one should respect such power and value one's humble possessions and resist the greed.
One thing that can be seen from both the sea and the hills is a vast extend of green lush forest at the feets of gentle mountain ranges. Surely this dense vegetation is home to diverse wildlife.
Join me next episode to find out...
Because as of now, 62S, the Osali family from Tivele has moved in and intend on establishing a manor west of Cronio. They say they plan to raise funds through logging, as the land is cleared of the forest that hugs the two streams coming down from the shore hills. Meanwhile, the Duke of Linolo has happily agreed to step in and extend the defence walls to cover the new manor. Just in case.
So, either the woodsmen or the builders will probably find out if there are any legendary beasts to undermine development in this stretch of forest... they will get paid regardless, so... happy campers!
