Unable to Edit Labels and Signposts

I have been a long-time player of SC4, but I took a long break for about 3 or so years when I had some computer problems. I have recently picked the game up again after buying a new laptop (HP, Intel Core i5, CPU 1.00 GHz, 12 GB RAM, running Windows 10). It didn't have a CD drive, so I purchased a digital download from GOG, the Deluxe edition. After moving everything over from my previous computer, all of my CC and original cities loaded into the new computer and seem to be running fine.

There's one problem that's bugging me. My city uses labels on streets and signposts, and there are times when I need to edit them. I can't seem to edit existing labels and signposts because the box to enter and edit text will not come up. I can add a new label or signpost, but I can't seem to edit ones that already exist.

Is this a bug? Is there someway to correct this?

This part will prolly be stating the obvious. *;)

I presume you have the signs toggled on and you navigated to the Place Signpost tool:

When you click that, your cursor changes to the signpost looking thinger. Then a single click anywhere on the sign puts it into edit mode:

If that's not happening, then I do suspect it's the same Windoze 10 bug which affects MMP cycling in which Win 10 sends a double click instead of a single click.

    Hello CorinaMarie,

Thank you for your response. I have toggled the signage on and off, but the labels and signs still cannot be edited. I could see how a double-click bug could get in the way of editing a signpost, but would it do that with a label as well, since it would have to pull up the textbox to edit from?

I didn't know what an MMP was, but I figured that out. Is there a way to correct the double-click bug? From what I have found so far, it looks like there are workarounds for MMP cycling, but none that fix the problem.

In my test with Win 7 Pro using the GoG version of the game, double clicking a sign with the sign tool makes it very briefly flash to edit mode and then back to just sit there and look pretty mode. Do keep in mind I'm offering my best guess for the problem you are experiencing, but I can't replicate it since I'm on 7. Hopefully someone using Win 10 will test and see if they experience the same thing you are seeing. (I suspect very few peeps use signs and labels so it's likely a lesser known bug.)

From any topic in SC4 General Discussion and the SC4 Bugs forums, I've not seen anyone post an actual fix. *:(

I was able to edit signs and labels for a small amount of time the other day. It was right after I had to reinstall the NAM. I had to reinstall it because I didn't have the most recent update and because some of the pieces didn't transfer well to the new computer.  The weird thing is that the next time I started the game, I could't edit the labels and signs again.

    Curiouser and curiouser. :boggle:

Can I presume there's no clicking or double clicking trouble in any other programs? (Rodents can over time start doing odd things on their own like a single click acting like a double click.)
