A discovery while researching 19th century dry docks: The docks at Sevastopol, Crimea. Destroyed by the victorious army's engineers during the Crimean War, after the fall of Sevastopol.

Reading a contemporary travelogue revealed that the buildings on the right side of the image were army hospitals filled with wounded, and that the long structures top left and right were aqueducts, built by various emperors at various times...

Richlite Observatory/Riverland Avian Observatory, St. Louis, MO, USA

The first picture reminded me of the Sandcrawler from Star Wars... I cannot be the only one, or can I?

Palazzo Italia, Milan, Italy

The building is cladded with air-purifying cement and concrete.

...and it looks as if it had been toilet papered by an entire batallion of kids with too much time (and, obviusly, toilet paper!) on their hands. I also had to think that maybe this is what it would look like if Christo had had several drinks too many before going to work.

Sorry about my stupid comments, but these recent buildings were really an invitation. :uhm:

There's something familiar about those spires.  "Start spreading the news..."

Still, it's a bit too garishly snazzy for my taste, especially when you consider the picturesque historic and natural beauty of Antalya and the Turquoise Coast.  On the other hand...

Whelp, I actually wanted to start with the words "guess who's back". But Cyclone took over already :)

Before we start of punctually on 1st September, I'd like to thank ya'll here. I've see several people asking when this thread will come back and also received some private messages by people telling me they really appreciate everybody posting here. I never thought this thread would get that popular when I launched it.

Anyway, for the future, I'd like to introduce themed weeks again. However, these don't have to be about building many people don't know, there will be several themed weeks dealing with architecture related stuff, that, on the other hand however, haven't been talked about all that much. Spoiler: Among those themed weeks will be "failed famous projects" and "gone after a short time but not forgotten".

Also, before I/we go back to usual business, I'd like to ask you what you would like to see. Would you want this thread to include more architecture related stuff or rather stick to what the actualy title says? Any wishes? Any topic you would want me to dedicate a week to?

    See you all soon 8)

Glad to see this thread back!!! I'm liking lately very much the buildings the photographer Roberto Conte (Instagram: @ilcontephotography) shows. Much brutalism, many of them from a country we don't associate with brutalism like Italy, and many unknown buildings. You can take a look to them if need some inspiration [link].

Thanks to @Cyclone Boom for fixing the weird issue with this thread. After it's running smoothly again, let's keep this going, back to brutalism.

A thing I wanted to post a while back already:
