SimCity: Rush Hour is 10 years old today.

In the original form, even with the EP1 patch, SC4 would have died a quick death in around 2004-5.  However, this time the developers outdid themselves by making it almost completely open-concept and table-driven which allowed the millions of add-ons and mods we have today.

The introduction to graphics programming given to many people was priceless.  EA never made a dime from this, nor did anyone else.  Now, EA is trying to recoup this loss, and good luck to them.  They hatched a cuckoo in their nest and it has taken this long for them to recover, rather poorly.

Let us celebrate the birth of "our baby".  Will and his boys did something that will probably never be seen again in the gaming world because it is fatal to the income possibilities for the makers.  Altruism is now dead in the game development world except for custom content makers that keeps the old girl on life support.

So raise a glass with me and give a cheer for SimCity 4 Deluxe and the creative modders who made it what it is today.  Be damned to narrow thinking!!

Hurray! Lets hope the coming years bring more prosperity to SC4, its been a long way from what it was, one decade ago. Now we have things that didn't exist back then. CJs featuring content from all around the world, fans still playing it, its hard to imagine what we have done for this game, its a lot! Anyway, lets celebrate by bringing out the cake and building a city, in SC4 that is. ;)

Cheers everyone!

In all these years it's quite remarkable how far the game has come. Rush Hour is what allowed modding as we know it. Without this expansion, only re-lots of Maxis buildings would be possible to this day. So it really deserves a big thanks to Maxis for opening the game up. With modern games and all the restrictions, it's something we rarely see now, at least to the same level.

Cheers! SC4 deluxe rules and it is still such a great game today! I really like it. The mods like nam and all other addons are so great. A big thank you to all people who worked had to provide us with great mods and addons!

Late reply, but it doesn't matter.

Happy birthday SC4!

PS. Custom content is what often makes game long lived, too bad in current DRM-filled age lot of developers (or mostly publishers) do everything to not make it possible.
