Hello.

I have all my city running with public transportation. Buses and street cars.

They are fully used.

Where all the incomes from this goes?

My mind says that the public transportation is not free.

Btw, is there a way of making transportation profitful?

Public transportation is never profitable IRL. The fares collected only defray part of the operating cost; they do not support the whole system.

The taxes just don't cover the expenses. The game was made that way, so you would be forced into using specializations, and learning how to play using them.

The funny thing is, if I heard it right, when you click on a bus stop you can here the sound of a metal coin being thrown into a box.

SimCity is so socialist... Free Healthcare AND Public transport? You've got to be kidding me!

Watch Fox News or something do a piece on this :P

haha... needed a giggle after the day I've had...

Though they'd probably doctor up the images (of the game) to make them look real, give it an actual location, an actual mayor and citizens just so the pleebs believe it's true.

In SC4, you at least earned some money from operating public transit if people started riding it.

    .

That is the point of a lot of things in SimCity. The player is forced down a path of specialization: by limiting city size, making ploppables big, making them expensive , and making them necessary to turn a large profit.

Not necessarily. I have a city that runs mega fire station, mega police station, high school, university, public transit, parks in every hood, clinics, and turns an hourly profit in the 7000s. In fact, I've decided that my oil specialization is a waste of land, and I'm preparing to demolish all the oil wells to add more industrial and expand my university. Industry is a decent money maker by itself.

a lot of public transportation systems around the world operate on a profit after the initial investment by the government. only in america can public transportation system rachet up millions of dollars in debt because unions demand rediculous pensions and benefits. by the way, if i recall correctly you can actually run a public transportation system on profit in simcity 4?

In SC4 I never made a profit on public transport, because I think it was designed that way. However, you could recoup some of the cost if many people used it. This provided incentive to maximize the efficiency of your transport systems. This is something I would like to see in SimCity as well.

Why can't I privatize my transport?

    Wouldn't that make sense?

Healthcare? Fire? Police? Why must I run a socialist city?

So you want to privatise your police force? Then give Dick Cheney a call. ;)

you can't privatize certain things because with privatization comes certain other rights.

Like the right to deny services to anyone for any reason...

This actually explains quite a lot of why privatization at-will isn't a good idea.

There are far too many all-too-real scenarios where this would and DOES get really ugly, really fast...

Do the words "Pre-Existing Condition" ring any bells?

Because normal people want to play this game, not just Republican voters in America.
