Sim City Electronics full walkthrough in 1080P

Hey everybody I'm DinosGG, I've been working on a multipart series on how to build a successful electronics city!  There are a lot of videos out there that crop out the good stuff, fast forward, or just jump right to the very end.  My tutorial walks you through each and every step of the way from when to place your hospitals, schools, factories, and more!.  And not only when you should place them, but I also go through my thought process on where you should put them and why!  My series on electronics will probably end up running for 6, maybe even 7 parts as there is a lot of material to cover.  After electronics I will be doing videos on how to build each individual specilization sucessfully, and more individualized videos upon request! All my videos will always be in 1080P, so without further waiting, watch and enjoy!

Part 1:

Part 2:

These two parts walk you through the basics of laying down the foundation to get your electronics empire up and running.  This ends at around the 40k population mark with more videos to follow in the coming days!  To stay up to date if you found these videos helpful, don't forget to subscribe to my youtube channel over at youtube.com/DinosGG and I'm also streaming live in 1080P over at twitch.tv/DinosGG if you want to follow me there.  All my streams and videos will always be in 1080P so you get the full Sim City experience.

Anyway let me know what you thought, what you liked, what you would like to see next, and thanks for watching!

  • Parts 3 and 4 have been completed!  Part 3 takes us into the foundation of the trading empire, I end the video with about 70k population and a decent foundation to start trading to make my money.  Also be on the look out for our red friend with a pretty big tounge! (PS he breaths fire!)

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rsnlg-o4C7I

Part 4 slows down somewhat, due to the nature of how trade buildings are unlocked, I have to spend some time stockpiling inventory in order to build up enough to get the quest completed.  A nice change I would suggest to EA to avoid this strategy is to make your sales based on a total amount, so instead of selling 1.5million in one day for example change the requirement to 2.5million lifetime electronics sales.

I have part 5 all finished for everyone!

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=oT6XHyPVmj0

Part 5 really gets our trading rolling at a fast pace, I complete the quest to sell 1.5 million in electronics, I actually bust way over by doing 2.1million. I battle with population and traffic swings throughout this video getting as high as around 150k population, the traffic on my city was not prepared to deal with this while doing trading so I raised my taxes up to cut my population to keep trade running smooth. I finish the video by plopping down the consumer electronics factory, going to start selling TVs $197k per shipping unit!

And as always if you enjoyed the videos don't forget to subscribe to my Youtube over at youtube.com/DinosGG to stay updated when part 6 comes out, and you can also follow my stream on twitch.tv/DinosGG to see me play live and record in 1080P!

Thanks again for watching everyone, hit me up with your comments, questions, or thoughts, and enjoy!

  • DinosGG here again and Part 6 is ready to go!

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=e76a5XCfV-w

This is video is pretty much the endgame for an electronics city. I get my consumer electronics factories up and rolling, I build a second trading port to streamline the process, and begin making millions a day. At this point the city is pretty much complete, my population is at about 160k right now, I'm going to shoot for 200k for the final video of part 7, and I will upload a part 8 once I get the space center completed so everyone can get to see how that works.

A couple parts of the stream got a little choppy I'm not sure what happened there so I apologize for that. My upload and cpu should be more than sufficient for the recording, maybe a rogue windows update or something. Who knows.

Anyway thanks again for watching everyone, don't forget to subscribe over at youtube.com/DinosGG to check out my upcoming videos (casino city is my next big project)! Also over at twitch.tv/DinosGG I stream live in 1080P, twitch is the platform I use to make my recordings for youtube so you can sometimes get a sneak peak at what's coming next on the stream!

    Enjoy!

Ha ha! I learnt the hard way about creating an electronics city. I became bankrupt several times because my hourly expenses ballooned to 20, 30 and even 40 thousand plus! Each time I had to shut down half of my processor plants, nearly all of my city services and raise taxes. It happened because I underestimated the extent to which my imports: oil, alloys and plastic deducted from my money. Seriously 100k of money is not enough for a safety buffer, it hast to be at least 500k.

Right now I have 4 million simoleans and every day my trading profit is about 4 million, right now my hourly expenses are about 55000 simoleans, so I'm making a net profit of about 2.7 million simoleans. In particular export TVs, the price they go for is insane! But don't import processors! Make your own, but if you must, do import plastic and alloys if your processor plants are running dangerously low.

  • Yeah importing processors is extremely expensive but once you have the start up funds (in the millions) you can actually bulldoze your old processor factories and run entirely off imports.  It is much much more efficient to do it this way.

    Some math:

    12000 per plastic import

    48000 per alloy import

    67000 per processor import

$44,000 per day to run the processor factory

Each unit of plastic and alloy makes 2 processors so $60,000 spent on materials nets you $134000 in processors.  So you're netting 74k by doing it yourself.  BUT, the big thing about this new version of Sim City is how limited you are on space.  If you're already going to have the trading port taking up space importing alloy and plastic, just change it over to processors and plastic, get rid of the old processor factories and see how much space you end up saving!  These can be replaced with probably about 30k worth of population for residental, or just replaced 1:1 with consumer electronics factories.  The math on those:

    12,000 per plastic import

    67000 per processor import

    197000 per TV export

$85,200 per day to run the TV factory

TVs hold the same ratio so 1 set of materials makes 2 TVs.  So 79,000 worth of materials makes you 394,000 worth of product, for a net gain of 315,000!  This is over 4x as much net profit by simply importing processors and getting rid of the old processor factory!

In the end, if you want the most bang for your buck and to maximize that crowded city of yours, get rid of the processor factories and import them!

Hey Dino, those videos are brilliant. Even if one doesnt want to work on electronic cities, it helps in so many other ways.

On another question about the last post you made. You think it will be just better to go for plastic and importing processors to go straight to TV? Or we will have to make the first step and than switch it? If so, i dont see the point in creating/importing alloy if thats the case. Another thing, i started a city a few days back and i was wondering if we really need all this population for electronic city. Most likely yes because of al the recycling needed for the plastic. Its just me thinking out loud.

  • The population isn't really needed, however I like to design my cities with the more classic sim city flavor of RCI as best as I can.  It's fun (at least for me) to see the population count go up along with the bank account, really proves it as a more successful city.

The way I do it I gradually start importing processors and one by one replace processor factories with consumer electronics factories.  You can't go straight into importing processors because you don't quite have the bankroll for it yet, but after a couple shipments of TVs then you're good to go.  In part 7 I go over slowly rezoning these and optimizing your trade, I'm still waiting for Youtube to give me the green light to link it but it is over on my account, youtube.com/Dinosgg

  • On Wednesday at 1pm Pacific I am going to be doing a stream over on twitch to finish out the series, I want to get the space port up and running to see how that improves the city.  The stream will run a minimum of 6 hours so even if you can't make it right at 1pm stop on by there's a lot of gameplay to do!  I will also be doing some more optimizations trying to get to 250k population! and the 100 million bank roll!

And of course the stream link:

I get what u mean. Im slowly growing my city to make it look sweet. Got a small industry area with high tech for all the wealthy residents. But at the same time i dont want to over populate my city to keep traffic at a minum for my trade. At the same time, not having the population might slow things down when it comes to recycling and converting it into alloy/plastic. So its either high population/traffic/faster money or low population/less traffic/slower money.

  • Part 7 is here!  I've had quite a few problems getting this video uploaded properly to Youtube so if you notice anything wrong or strange with the video please let me know so I can look into it further!

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMd73RPSPso

Here's the full playlist of all 7 parts:

In the final part to the series I break the 200k population barrier, and my city is swarmed in traffic because of it.  This is why at the very beginning when I chose my city I chose well, I got a piece of land with a rail connection and a boat connection so no matter how gridlocked my city becomes I can always keep my income of trade flowing in.  I finally plop down a nuclear plant because oil is becoming unreliable.  I also start to replace all my processor factories because it is more efficient to import them, these I replace 1 by 1 as my funds allow.

Hopefully these videos have helped out, I will be starting up on gambling this week.  I will be running a stream on Wednesday at 1pm pacific to show what it takes to get the space port up and running, if you're interesting in that check out my stream twitch.tv/DinosGG and I'll of course have a highlight video of the ending up on youtube.com/DinosGG once it is finished.  The stream will run for at least 6 hours so even if you can't make it right at the start feel free to tune in I'll still be playing!

Thanks again for watching and enjoy!

  • I want to say it was on the 2nd part but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Here's the completion of the space center, I didn't get to build a base on the moon unfortunately :(  I could've really used it with how packed my city is right now!  There's also a rocket launch I wish I could've gotten to zoom in more or follow the rocket out of the atmosphere, but no dice there.

I know a lot of you have been waiting for it, and I've finally begun work on the casino tutorial series as well. There will be a lot of traffic but eventually we will be left with a casino empire and all the required steps to get there. I've been listening to all the comments you guys posted for electronics to try and improve upon the videos, the biggest thing is their length now all the videos will be between 20-30 minutes for easier watching. As always hit me up with your comments, suggestions and thoughts!

  • Here's the godzilla part for anyone that hasn't seen it.  Disasters seem a lot less common than they used to be when the game originally came out.

  • Yeah if you are really really strapped for cash he is pretty tough to deal with.  Luckily with trade you usually have the money to deal with it, depending on where he goes of course.
