Game crashes when loading a city, after editing files.

I'm here looking for any answers or help with my game crashing after doing edits with the SC4 Tool.

The game starts up as usual, but when it comes to entering into a map or city, it blacks out and crashes to my steam application.

Is there a reason why this major problem is happening, when I edit files?

(But this only started happening after I changed the SC4 tool, because of the odd loading menu issue.)

There are all kinds to things you can do with that tool that might make your game playable in software mode only. Did you try it?

  • Yes I changed the rendering mode to software in game and restarted that app. It stills crashes on loading a city.

Like I said before, it never did this when I used the tool before changing and using; Disable Desktop Composition.

Well, I sure hope you can undo what you did.

You can verify that the game is unaffected by renaming your plugins file to something else like Plugins.hold, and starting the game. A new empty plugins folder will be created and the crashes should not happen.

I have not used "Disable Desktop Composition". What advantage is it supposed to have?

  • I did edit a file outside of my plugin folder and the game seems to work fine with it.

Disable Desktop Composition allows SC4 tool to work fine without this silly loading menu. It only affected windows 7.

OK, well try removing all the lots you edited to another folder, test the game without them, and if it now runs, it is one of these lots. So now, you can put them back, one at a time, testing after each add, until you find the offender.

So I've been trying to use transit enabling on SC4Tool, but when I click it, it asks for the path, etc.  I click through to find the folder necessary, once I hit "OK" it doesn't actually set it.  Am I doing something wrong?
