Help! Will my mods work properly?

I am having a bit of trouble trying to get updates to work despite how easy the .exes are supposed to make them. I recently purchased SimCity4 Deluxe Edition and then decided to play with mods. Because I bought the game from Amazon (online download) the exe file was already up to date and the guide for eager but willing noobs says that no updates are needed. I tried installing the BATlighting update skipping the EP1 update because the game was already at the correct version. Unfortunately, when trying to do the BAT update or install BAT I get an update abort message and the thing fails to install.

I have tried asking on reddit but only got one reply so I thought this might get better attention. The user on reddit (thanks for the help) said that no further updates were needed but night lighting on building I have downloaded aren't working so I am wondering if the growable buildings and other functions are just not working without my knowledge.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I was amazed when I bought the game and then found this site and discovered there is still supported mods for the game and such a thriving community! Hopefully I can get this fixed to get building! Thanks a lot!

Oops, I forget to mention that I am running Windows 8 so that might be a source of problem. :uhm:

First of all, you have a serious misunderstanding because the thread you were reading really applied only to the disk-loaded version of the game. The version you got from Amazon should be 1,1,641. You can check this by hovering your mouse over the .exe. (SimCity 4.exe).

Try just running the game. Windows 8 should not make any difference, however you need to take appropriate action with command line options if you have a multi-core processor and/or a DVI monitor.

The digital download includes all the published patches and runs without a play disk.

Oh, and Reddit is not a recommended source for game information.
