Old building Ive always wanted...

There is this old building Ive always wanted for my cities. I can't remember the name, but I can describe it. This building has both Residential and Commercial within. Reminded me of the Jetsons buildings. Has lots of eco greenery and a spherical window top. I think it was kinda self sufficient, maybe plopable. I was wondering if any of you know of this building, its name, or where I can find it.

Unfortunately because of the way that the game works it's not possible to mix functions. In SC2000, the arcologies not only had residential and commercial in them, i think they also had stuff like schools and police mixed in too. So from a modding point of view they're not possible.

From a BATing point of view they're not really possible because they're actually really big. If I recall right, a tile in SC2000 is 64x64 meters, while in SC4, a tile is only 16x16 meters. So arcologies are actually impractically huge.

But nevertheless, I think some people have made adaptations of the arcologies on the STEX. They're not multi-functional and they're not the right size, but they don't look too bad. :)

  • Fantastic response, I really appreciate it. Seems like a set of Arcology buildings that incorporate which ever parts are allowed in mod or bat. Then just place them around each other.

oh and something else I forgot is that residential ploppables don't work in the game, and that a growable at the size of an arcology would be unstable (would abandon or dilapidate easily, and when it dilapidates it would flood the city with a massive amount of the lower wealth sims/jobs and would screw up your city).

It is normal in a lot of cities for buildings to have mixed usage. In Toronto, for example, there is a zoning type of R1C1 which allows a single family residence combined with a low density business. The RCI restrictions make this impossible in SC4. Wonder if this is still the case with SimCity 2013?

I wish mixing zoning was allowed, because that would greatly increase how realistic the game is, and it would allow populations to get really large. I could truely build a small town type city with that.
