Navigating Simtropolis on iPhone

During quieter parts of my working day, I sometimes like to peruse Simtropolis on my iPhone.

One thing that I find annoying though is when reading a topic that has more than two pages, I can't find a way of jumping to a particular page number. The only buttons I can see are 'Prev' and 'Next'. This can be frustrating if there's 27 pages go through to get to the most recent comment.

Can someone tell me if that is the case, or if I'm being a bit thick and missing something glaringly obvious.

Ta.

This is indeed (sadly) the case. Happens on my droid, too. A workaround is to (a) look at the post count on the 'menu' page and remember it. (b) then go to the first page of the thread, and © hit next. Now you can (d) edit the url by changing the number at the end to the post count and (e) hit return. Should get you there (and takes less time to do than it took me to write this post).

You must really be addicted to the site if you try to manipulate it on one of those small screens. There is a mobile version, apparently, but as all things in tiny boxes, elephants usually don't fit.

You should try using the IPS Communities App, it works really well for browsing sites that use the IPB forum software, like simtropolis does. It'll fix the problems that you have with trying to skip through pages, one little button on the bottom left brings up a list of all available pages, and lets you skip to what ever one you want. It also has great features, like push notifications, which is great for letting you know when you get Messages or when someone posts in a topic you follow. You can also format your posts much like you would on the desktop version, being able to insert links, or make text bold or italic. It also keeps active pages when the app is quit, so that if you want to go back to an tutorial or a thread that you were reading before you closed the app, it will still be there with out the need to reload the page.

You should also look back through which gives some information on making the mobile version of the website look more like an app, check down the page a bit, but that doesn't fix your page navigation problems.

I recommend the IPB app, its really good, really easy to read and I use it all the time. The push notifications are also great, but only if you really need to be informed the second something happens.

Would you be able to help us catch up after a bit of a shortfall?

We had a small shortfall last month. Your donation today would help us catch up for this month.

Make a Donation, Get a Gift!

We need to continue to raise enough money each month to pay for expenses which includes hardware, bandwidth, software licenses, support licenses and other necessary 3rd party costs.

By way of a "Thank You" gift, we'd like to send you our STEX Collector's DVD. It's some of the best buildings, lots, maps and mods collected for you over the years. Check out the STEX Collections for more info.

Each donation helps keep Simtropolis online, open and free!

Thank you for reading and enjoy the site!
