select cities crash upon load. Height issue?

My first post here, but ive been a lurker for years. I finally ran into a problem that I need some help with.

I downloaded a region from here, Nyiata that id like to try out SmileyMK's realistic cities tutrorial with, and am currently in the process of entering each city tile, adding trees and updating region view graphics. But certain cities in the region, ones with high mountains, load for 2 or 3 seconds then C.T.D. Ive read about height boundaries, and certain creators have certain mods that change this, something like 500 meters 600 meters 700 meters? And mountains cant be made above that height or something? So Im thinking this region may have mountains over the maxis limit so it crashes?

I have the columbus terrain mod, (which I had to download from an asian website because it seems impossible to find anywhere else, so if there is a special dependance for height or something, i wouldnt know.) granite rock mod, and white sands beach mod. Ive been able to play fine no problems for hours in my other regions, the only issue im having are with these mountain containing cities. Is there a dependance for the terrain mod for high mountains?

Computer is a HP ENVY 14 pc

4 gig of ram

Intel core i5 CPU (first gen) 2.53 hrtz

ATI mobility Readon 5650 graphics active. (switchable with INTEL HD)

Cities circled in red are known problem zones, circled in yellow are cities I think might produce the same problem, but haven't actually gone in to test.

Your machine is OK. I think you might need to do some disk cleanup operations however.

When was the last time you ran the program Disk Cleanup? Disk Defragmenter? Each of these should run weekly with this game to prevent the disk from getting too fragmented, especially city files where this happens frequently.

If you are having height problems, I'd suggest you choose another map. None of mine have any such problem, but you will find that they have to be rendered in-game. I do not use Terraformer or Mapper because they won't run in my environment.

  • Just letting you all know it was the Columbus terrain mod that was causing the crashes on those cities. I replaced it with the Italia mod and they load just fine now. Im kinda disappointed because I kinda prefer the Columbus mod (Italia is too bright green and flowery in some parts) But I guess beggars cant be choosers, and they are almost identical besides that so. I found a fix that raises max height for various different terrain mods up to 5000 meters, including Columbus, but it didnt seem to work.
