Please help me cull some buildings

I have a huge plug in folder. Full of many things I love that I've downloaded over a long time. However there are a few things that don't suit what I'm doing now and I can't find the files to delete. If anyone can help me find the original files on stex, i can download them again, see what their file name is (frustratingly much different from their query name) so I can delete them.

Any help is much appreciated

The white building with pool and flag on the roof. I have found an update of the building with no pool but does not help me find the original.

The satellite dishes, I found one lot called something like quantum dishes and deleted them but these still appear.

The rounded office buildings. I really like them but like the other two they just appear too often and don't suit the environment.

I get those satellite dishes too. I think they are part of the Maxis default. Of the others, I've never seen them before, so they are not in my plugins nor in the default game to my knowledge.

Maybe your best bet is to rename your Plugins folder Plugins.old, start the game to create a new empty Plugins folder, then selectively move the plugins you want to keep and are sure of to the new folder.

I don't know how you organize your plugins, but I suggest that keeping them in sub-folders by source is what a lot of members do. I also keep a parallel structure of downloads (the original zips only) so that I can back out at any time by simply re-expanding the zip to find out what is in it.

I am sorry to note that you seem to have been affected by the 'gee I want that' syndrome.

What I do when I cull my unwanted buildings is go through a city and write down the names of all the buildings I want to delete. Then I go to my plugins folder and use the search bar to find each building and delete. I use windows 7, so I'm not sure about other operating systems. Also I search for all anything containing readme, .txt, .jpg, .png, .pdf, .exe. etc... Because sometimes I accidentally unzip these sort of files when I download and I hear that extra junk can buildup and slow the game. If there is only one specific style of city you like to build, (I only build american style cities) then you can try deleting all the european-style buildings for example.

Junk and documentation in your plugins folders slows the game during loading, but are ignored thereafter. However, for sanity's sake, I do keep my original downloaded archives in a separate list away from the game. I try to avoid putting any strange files in my plugins, but I see it is time for another cleanup.

  • I have done the write down names and search plug in folders. These must have an absolute different file name then 'in game' name. I've noticed that happens a bit. Yes it's so hard not to get carried away with the great buildings people design. I do have the 'old sc' folder on my desk top. I have subfolders but everything has got unwieldy. I guess its time to pause now and do a very very thorough clean out.

Nonny I was going to say I have maxis blockers but then realised HT industry is probably the only one I'm not blocking.
