Where would you put a Marina on this map?

Hey all,

I am working off the Coastal Highlands map by comdude 21:

Eventually, I would like a portion of the city to be a high-end Marina...think a classier/cosmopolitan Vegas or South Beach, with high-rise residential, hotels, and an entertainment district, overlooking yachts and yacht clubs. The only problem is (and I love this map!) I can't really figure out where to put it. You would not have a marina on the actual coast line, correct? They are usually in bays? And yet the only other place to put it would be the rivers, which seems odd too. Where would you all put it? I am basing it off the bottom half, the top portion will be a large city as well, but will essentially act as a smaller portion of the metropolitan area based around the bottom city.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Marinas are usually on some sort of inland waterway, so you really have no choice but to place it along the rivers. Having said that, if it were ME, I'd be doing a little terraforming to create a set of barrier islands where the large river meets the ocean in the lower section of the map - and then I'd dig out a bay on the inland side of those islands. Then on the opposite side of the bay, where the two rivers empty into it, that's where I'd create my marina district. But that's just me. This is what I'm talking about...red circled area is where I'd create the marina district:

Holy $%&^! that's sort of brilliant. I suck at terraforming but will give it a try.

Oh, I doubt you suck at it that bad. Just alternate using different sizes of the terrain tool, and you'll be fine. If you choose to do it, let me see how it turns out. Good luck with your city!

  • What about using this bad boy to create a "Marina wall" on the flat coast line just north of the estuary? Would this be realistic? (Not necessarily is there precedence, but could you imagine a realistic city using this solution).
