Hey

When you guys make buildings to add to the game, are they 3D models being added or isometric renders in image format of your 3D model at 4 angles to accommodate the rotate feature?

They are 3D models made using the Building Architect Tool (BAT) that Maxis released for SimCity 4. You can find the download over on SC4Devotion.com. You also need Gmax to use it.

Also necessary to add the buildings to lots and use them in-game is the Lot Editor tool. All of this stuff is on SC4Devotion (click on Tools on the bar to the left)

Prerendered isometric images for each rotation and zoom. :)

Automata (vehicles), terrain, and a few other things (like the wind power plant's blades) are true 3d.

BATs are models rendered in gmax, then the render is wrapped onto a 3D model, of which there is one of for each zoom and rotation. This makes up the vast majority of the game's buildings, props and flora.

Tru3D models are proper 3D models at all stages of the process. Examples are all Automata, the game's Fauna brushes and any elevated transit network (and some ground ones).

It is not Isometric (Which is a camera angle), it is Orthographic (Which is a depth setting).
