    Well, hi everyone!

I'm having some issues about excess of files in my plugins folder. I have been trying to delete files of stuff I don't use anymore like the Sim City Motoren Werke, but in its case I cannot find out what are the files of that building. It has not its name on it. And it's been a while since I downloaded that thus I do not remember where it came from... Could somebody help me about that? Thanks.

Could it be this file or this

If so, just re-download it and remove the corresponding files

Time to do a plugins audit, perhaps.

I keep two sets of files, and suggest everyone should do the same. I have the original downloaded files in a folder named Downloads (actually in a sub-folder /home/john/Downloads/SC4RelatedDownloads). I expand all files I download here, and using whatever technique is recommended move the necessary files to my /home/john/SimCity 4/Plugins folder. Both of these are structured in a similar way, but they don't exactly shadow because some plugins need special treatment.

This pays off when I want to do something with a plugin but I am not sure what files to work on. I just go to the Downloads section, find the original file, expand it again and voilà, here are all the file names I need.

I don't keep the expanded files in the Downloads folder. When I have moved out the ones I need, I delete the rest keeping on the archive (.zip, .rar, whatever).

For managing this and keeping track of what's there, you might want to do some console work. I remember that the tree command is available under the cmd option (console), and that output redirection works (it did on XP), so try this:

    tree "SimCity 4"/Plugins >output.txt

Then open the file output.txt in notepad. You may very well be enlightened.

On my system the tree command has several useful options that can manipulate the output. I suggest you take a look at

    tree /?

on your console. This should give you the basic help, and if you want the full discussion, try the Windows help system.

Here is the beginning of the manual page on my system (Linux).

    NAME

tree - list contents of directories in a tree-like format.

    SYNOPSIS

    tree [-adfghilnopqrstuvxACDFNS] [-L level [-R]] [-H baseHREF] [-T title] [-o filename] [--nolinks] [-P pattern] [-I pattern]

[--inodes] [--device] [--noreport] [--dirsfirst] [--version] [--help] [--filelimit #] [directory ...]

    DESCRIPTION

Tree is a recursive directory listing program that produces a depth indented listing of files, which is colorized ala dircolors

if the LS_COLORS environment variable is set and output is to tty. With no arguments, tree lists the files in the current direc‐

tory. When directory arguments are given, tree lists all the files and/or directories found in the given directories each in

turn. Upon completion of listing all files/directories found, tree returns the total number of files and/or directories listed.

I have no way of trying is in a Windows environment, so good luck to all. I hope this is still there for you.
